Meant to post this earlier and I forgot. :P

A very large dragonfly flew around my yard today. It landed long enough for me to get a shot off. I couldn't get any closer than this unfortunately.

It's still very close! I love the downswing of the wings, most shots only feature an outspread

He was fighting off a stiff breeze at the time, which was forcing his wings down a bit.

I'm actually standing several feet away. I like my zoom. I'd like to improve it a bit, so I've been looking into some telephoto converters to add a bit of power to it.

I sooooo wanted to get right up on those eyes with the macro lens. Alas, dragonflies that let me do that appear to be an exception.

This guy was almost twice the size of the previous dragonfly I posted.

I hope to find some mantids. They're around here somewhere, but sometimes they can be elusive.
