Since this is my first tail and my first time making a pattern, I made a quick mockup from a trash bag, packing tape, and packing paper to check it out before committing to fabric. I was able to test how the tail swings and get a feel for its size, and decided this is the pattern I want to use in fur. I'm planning to use hidden belt loops, so that will help manage the weight/tilt if that ends up being a concern.

Sure! I drafted a paper pattern to get the shape I wanted, and then laid that on top of a trash bag. I cut it out with my rotary cutter, then used small strips of packing tape along the edges at the top and bottom - I stuck several strips to one side, hanging about halfway off the edge, then flipped the whole piece over and folded down the excess to connect both sides. Then I stuffed it with some plastic grocery bags in the tip to give it good swing, and crumpled moving paper throughout the main body of the tail! Hope that makes sense! 🐾
