Samantha is a sable that was taken from her mother at an early age. After having learned much of the world of witchcraft, her father was determined to raise her in ways to hone what he deemed proper skills. She never got to say goodbye to her mother and also has no idea of her fate. Joining the Brotherhood was all due to her father's involvement, specifically the group he led. Taking her under his wing kept her relatively safe, though she could tell the looks most of the other gave her. Still, she pushed herself through and earned her place.
While she did renounce her title as a witch, she kept her hat as a small keepsake. Fashioning it into something to appear less like the pointed tip, she wanted to keep a part of her past to remember even if she isn't sure why she had such feelings. The armor she wears is lighter than all but one of the group members in the Brotherhood of the Fang, second only to Vivi. Keeping nimble and able to strike fast was a better option than lumbering around in a suit of armor. Favoring close combat was something she found preferable early on as it let her work with her hands more. It also let her confirm kills on monsters and other bounties easier.
The Brotherhood in general are less strict about their rulings than they were a century ago. They've been nicknamed witch hunters by most and not without reason. The groups used to hunt for covens or lone witches, demanding their blasphemous ways be put to rest one way or another. It took a while for them to come to their sense that not all witches are bad. Still, as much as they wished to rename themselves into monster hunters the past never forgets. It stands to reason why some of the group looks upon Samantha with a bit of disdain. Perhaps the feelings of all the Brotherhood aren't in agreement about letting witches be, former or not.
Samantha's father, Johnathan Briar, is a proud sable that leads their small band through Beladryn in search of bounties or other monsters to slay and keep the land at peace. It's a lot of traveling and plenty of wound tending in some parts. Samantha knows he isn't fully there as her father and recruited her for her skills. Though, she still vies for his approval and praise whenever possible, wanting to be there for him and help. She even likes that he personally chose to call her Sam. Maybe it just seems to fit when she hears it.
The Fang group is hardly the only one that roams about in Beladryn as there are few more to help keep the land safer for travelers and merchants and all others sorts of beastfolk. Even if they aren't the only one they may be the most standout across the land. Word of their hunts are told in taverns or spoken about almost as if they felled a legend. Despite what many think of them, there are quite a few that can't deny impressive work when it's done.
Years of growing up around stern or tough beastfolk molded Samantha into a stronger sable than she would have guessed. Her curt nature to most may seem off-putting but she shows nothing but kindness to Vivi. Lilian has had more than a few run-ins with the witch hunter and often toys with her in attempts to try and get a small reaction from the sable. It seems to irritate Sam more than anything. There's a lingering fear Nana has that Lily may push the sable too far one day and the reaction she gets may not be a fun one, though the warning has seemed to go in one ear and out the other.
Swords, armor, claws and teeth, Samantha is ready and willing to put forth her all in any hunt to make sure their target goes down or the trophy is taken. She may not seem keen on conversation but will listen carefully and answer shortly until she warms up to the other. Be kind, be courteous, and above all don't be threatening and she may linger around a bit more than usual if you wish her stay a while.
