Thanks, Austin! I was definitely inspired by a lot of classic Disney character designs, ala Disney Afternoon and Aladdin and, especially, Lion King.
As for the background, full disclosure: It's not mine but something I picked up from one of those royalty-free websites. Though it was heavily modified to match the color scheme and perspective of the Sphinx.
