Frankly the removal of that mascot was more a missing of the point than keeping it ever could have been.

Just imagine a role reversal for a moment: what if, say, the Westboro Baptist Church (or insert other right-wing nutjobs here) flew a plane into the Burj Dubai in the name of Christendom? Would you be happy if they had sports teams etc stripped of their Western-styled mascots, eg. if they had their mascot as the Cowboys or some such, and removed it in favour of the Camels, all because of that one incident borne by some right-wing nutters?
I know this is small fry, but it mixes into the greater unbelievable reaction the US and some other 'Western' countries have had to the whole Twin Towers thing.

So some extremists got their act together enough to inflict damage and kill a large bunch of hard working, law abiding innocent people. I am not condoning what they did at all, I hate what they did as much as any other decent person. However, your gripe is with them, not with the innocent and often completely unrelated people who have to put up with them in their home countries.

So let's large-scale the above metaphor: Would you be happy if after such an unfortunate event happened to the Burj Dubai, as a result, the leaders of Dubai, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan etc all decided to go to war on the USA and then took almost 10 years to finally find and assassinate the (Pastor)? </completely out of context now I know> (that could make a great book actually)

In short: it's a sad situation, really.

I just started attending classes last year and so my college had removed the mascot long before I started. I did hear it happened because of the twin towers incident, but I also think that so many people complained about it to the school board afterwards that they were forced to remove it.

That's just me making an excuse because I have no idea if that really happened.
