This is Ryu, my brave and somewhat stubborn Magikarp. The second I got access to the fishing rod, I went back to New Bark Town and got a Magikarp. It took a while, but I managed to evolve him, and hasnt left my team since. Gyarados is a beast of a pokemon no matter the gen.
Now for backstory: This guy was specifically bred to be pretty and swim in a pond outside a summer getaway mansion. Generations upon generations of breeding Magikarps with lovediscs and Alomomolas for this. Too bad he prefers battles over being a spoiled little decoration for the rich. My SoulSilver OC, Magnus, actually knew Ryu since before his Pokémon journey began, and promised to come get him once he became a real trainer.
Ryu doesn't mind the fact that he's cute and frilly; it makes it easier to take his opponents by surprise, and beat them up before they even know what hit'em.
