Well - at least some Digimon are :D But some more Digi stoof! Alephmon, Stry, and Levin trying to help some of Levins former work 'buds' in the Dark Network to have a nice life. Not under the big ears of a meanie Terriermon! But as seems to happen so often with Freelancer things it doesnt all go to plan. But does go to flat!
For one who spent a lot of time in the Physical world, with all the humans and the tasty weird food, Levin was often still surprised at Digital things. But data transfers can come from all over. So when he shook out the bottle, found in the castle moat, and carefully used a claw to pop out the cork and pull out the letter inside he just had to accept that it was from the Net Ocean. That had bobbed up into their sealed in moat. From the Net Ocean.
That just how it worked here!
“What is it Levin?” Aleph asking as he dangled half off the drawbridge into the Freelancer castle proper.
“A bottle.”
“Well…yes!” Alephmon sticking out his tongue as the bottle was thumped into the sand down there next to the stick Levin had used to fished the bottle over so he could grab it. Levin not noticing the rattle and clink of something else still in there. “What else?”
“Had a cork too.” Aleph giving a big sigh as he grabbed a berry and aimed it at the shock bun before Levin added. “Reading so can share.” So the berry was then popped in his maw. Ooh! Blue flavored. A good one.
“Its a call for help.” Those pointy wolf ears perking up even more pointedly as he focused down on Levin. Already starting to get up as he waved over Stry who was helping to right some knocked over berries on the stall as he hopped off the bridge to start to head down.
“From…Gazimon - ones who used to work with me.” A pause and a deep breath before Levin continued. “Dunno how they found out about me here. Thats not in the letter.” Stry still heading down as Aleph clapped a hand on Levins shoulder.
“They surely heard about you! Getting your name out being a Freelancer Levin!”
“I guess - but it went so bad last time.” Stry joining in holding Levins other shoulder.
“Did it really? You helped Aleph and learned your Armor form. I’m sure those baddiemon,” Aleph hermph-ing to keep himself from snickering. “Will do better after they woke up.”
“I guess. And Etemon did employ,” paid with music and snacks! What a deal! “A lot of us. So guess another group heard and wanted help.”
“What with?” Aleph podding as the letter being opened up fully in Levins claws so everyone could read. Stry scooting a little over and nudging the bottle with a foot. Which started to glow as the three Mons focused on the letter.
‘Levin! We could really do with some help!
You and your new boss do that right? If not uhh…help anyway! Please!
We are in the Net Ocean at around 20.2559 N, -40.6632 W. Thank goodness we have readouts! Near the port of Apple Crumble. And will be here for two days. Ship is ‘The Ear Full’. The Terriermon is worse than Old Boss! He doesn't even plan music! But he wont let us leave! Come and help!’
“Well at least it's exact.” Levin musing as the glow increased as Aleph hummed and looked up at the sky, totally missing the glow.
“Thats a few days away unless we fly. And we don’t really have to a way to do that. Not good to help.”
“How did this even get here from there anyway?” Levin starting to fold up the letter which let him see the glowing bottle on the ground. Stry picking it up and humming as Aleph smiled!
“Oh well you see thats just a message delivery system! Like Human email.” Now the bottle held up to all of them as Aleph would oooh at it. “Pretty! But yeah like Email. They knew your name. The world around us knows you are here. So it delivered it to you! Isn’t that great?”
“Delivery.” Bleep blooped out from the bottle as it suddenly flashed a blinding bright light!
The sounds of the Ocean was what was heard first. And once those swirling eyes could see again the sight of it too. The three now on a beach. Well on the boardwalk next to the beach.
“Outa the way!” Shouted way too last as the three Freelancers were bowled over by a push cart. Unfortunately for Aleph and Stry on both sides of Levin the wheels got them! But luckily as the squishy toony bits of code they were their bodies would just smoosh and flatten out! Stunned but otherwise fine. Levin on the other hand knocked flat and back to eye swirls before he blinked and looked up just in time for the flippers of a Divermon to slap down onto one of his ears! Making that tail poof out and mouth shout an ‘ouch!’ into the wood before out clapped and slapped that Mon. Pushing along their cart of nets and fishing gear.
Levin soon sat up rubbing his stood on ear before looking at the sides of the marfs and squeaks of his fellows. Oh right. Looking back and forth on the boardwalk to make sure they were not about to be run over again. Not for the moment. Though several water liking Mons were giving them weird looks. But focus on the now! Levin clapping his paws together and rubbing them back and fourth to help generate some zappy charges. Starting with Aleph first as he was the bigger. Needed more juice to pop back up. So taking hold of those flat hands Levin would stand up and start to flap and wriggle the flatmon up and down while pumping electricity into his boss. Aleph soon widening out and being able to see again as he blinked at Levin flailing him around like a damp towel!
“Keep it up Levin!” He squeaked out and eventually was able to put his feet back on the deck. Stretching out and trying to hide his embarrassment of being squished in public like that. Stry by now starting to pop back up by himself. But Levin soon patting and rolling him back and fourth with more zaps to help as Aleph looked around and hummed. “You there! Bosamon!” The floof ball that was clearly trying not to look like it was listening not moving. Facing away but with their ears back toward the trio as Stry would epp and be almost back to normal. Aleph frowning as he went to take a step forward before just staying where he was. “What port is this?” But still no response from the floof. Arrgh! Thankfully a passing Otamamon was not as cagey as the Bosa and so happily looked over just as Stry was helped up to stand normally they responded.
“Apple Crumble.” Before off they hopped and soon hopped right off the dock and into the water. The three left side mouthing a bit as they mulled that over.
“Well at least we are here now. To help!” Stry giving a thumbs up as Levin let out a breath and nodded. Brushing off some sand from his hoodie.
“That we are. Without any Digimentals or support.”
“But we have each other! And this sword!” Drawing out his blade all dramatically! Before quickly moving it out of the way to not get in the way of an Agumon walking down the boardwalk. And for safety back in the sheath it went. “But we got this! And will do our best!” Levin smiling and nodding as he joined in the three squish hug before shielding his eyes to look around the beach port.
“Right - let's try to find this ship then?”
Thankfully the docks were very easy to find as the sails and masts of the ships stuck out high above all the other buildings. Pointed out with three sets of claws before the foot claws after started to move off. Walking past all the little stalls selling fish, shiny shells, sparkly gems, lamps and rope, all for sale for good prices! But the three were on a mission.
“The Castle could use some more rope,” well - mostly. Aleph given a tug on the tail by the other two as they would try to keep him on task.
“We can get it once we help the others.”
“We are here for helping! Shopping later.” And thankfully the wolf would turn to follow again. Until that smell - that sweet smell made him snap to his right. Right there. Grilling and steaming away. Calling his name.
Burger stand.
“Oh no you don't!" Levin squeaking out as he grabbed Aleph around the chest, the wolves eyes already stars and starting to drool, even as he was lifted off the ground. Eyes fixed on that patty as cheese was gently laid over the bun. Starting to melt slowly over the sides and then sliding under the meat to help secure it to the bun. “Stry! A hand please!” But the Veemon was struggling himself with the sight and smells of that meal. “Oh come on! We don’t have any money!” Trying to point with his tail at the sign that clearly said ‘Burgers! 15 Bits!’
Well - at least Levin didn’t have any money. The glowing blue coins appearing in Alephs hands almost instantly as the sign was pointed out to him. Arrrgh! And with the wiggling Digi so determined to have burger and without help Levin was soon flopped over as out squirmed Aleph. Ugh…fine. It would be hard for them to concentrate on an empty stomach. And this meant they would have more energy to help. AND the letter said they would be there for two days. So fine.
But as Aleph had enough shiny coins for three burgers Levin soon didn’t have those concerns anymore as the three soon found themselves sat on the curb enjoying a burger each. It was very nice. Oh so fresh and full of juice. A nice crispy bun. Toppings in perfect ratio. As well as friends to enjoy it with. What a grand start to the operation! Surely it would just go fine from here. All they had to do now was fine the boat and tell the…Levin flicking open the note to recheck it as he held his almost finished burger to the side - on Alephs left side uh oh - to recheck. Terriermon that was it. As was Alephs open the mouth slowly descending toward the burger. Two days and they were already here. They had this.
“Homph!” Levin looking over to see that Aleph had most of his mouth down to Levins palm. Looking at the Gazimon with his biggest eyes the wolf could muster before slowly letting those claws go. Burger gone! “You were finished with that…right?”
Levin giving his best flatbrow before those trembling eyes made him sigh and nod. “Yes - thanks for helping with cleanup. Right. Are we feeling better now? Fed and ready?” Both others nodding as up they got. Thankfully the masts and sails were still in view and so off they went. As a port town this place was pretty busy! Goods and passengers coming and going so they were not able to go super fast but progress was made. The three of them even helping to carry some sacks of food from a store to the docks. Given two bits each to do so! Helping to pay their way toward a new burger! And with the sacks set down they would fist bump. Coins in hand and now on the dock itself. It was long and wide.
Now came the part of finding the specific ship. The note out again as Levin scanned it over. “The Ear Full. Captained by a Terriermon.”
“Gotcha! We’ll find it quickly!” Stry pheeping and then he headed off. So off they clicky clacked on the wooden floor. Gently swaying with the sea and the ships around them as the ocean did its thing. Small boats, medium boats, large wood boats! Even a cruise ship! That was here too. Just Digital Things. Levin though was pleased that he wasn’t getting dirty looks. Or looks at all really. He was always worried that somemon would be around from the Etemon days. Perhaps even someone who knew he was there - somehow. Just his brain worrying about nothing really. Or just dislike him because he was a Gazimon. But nomon even glanced at him twice. It was…nice seeing that the world kept moving along. He could too. Like Aleph, Stry, and Zoom kept telling him. Forward and out of the rut he was in back there. He could do good!
“Levin!” That wasn’t a Freelancer he recognised?! Levin spinning in place before seeing a tri clawed grey paw waving at him from a boat. Another Gazimon! Soon joined by two more sets of ears to add to the three there. “You got the note?” Levin dropping his eyes to clarify that it was The Ear Full written below the prow. Excellent!
“Yeah! We came to uhh…help!” Yeah! Confidence! Already starting to head toward the gang plank of the wooden sail ship before he stopped with a foot just on the ramp. Where were Aleph and Stry? Looking back to see them running over before his foot shifted.
“Ain’t no help gona happen here!” A gruff voice shouted out as a Terriermon, one would guess the captain, spun into view and landed on the top of the ramp. Kicking it as the ship started to move. “These scurvy rats have debts to work off! My debts to work off!”
Levin surprising himself that he was already halfway up the ramp as he held his breath and focused on the top of that almost falling ramp. Leaning forward before he leapt upwards with a small jolt. Leaving a score mark in the ramp as it clattered and splashed into the water. Managing to just clear the captain and his big hat. Quite a fancy hat it was. As he landed and tumbled onto the deck. Almost into several of the Gazimon before he managed to get up.
“Quick! Try to get the Veemon and Alephmon up here! Offer a hand!”
“Whats an Alephmon?!” Oh…right. Supposedly Human and now a Digi - whatever Levin had more important things to worry about! Though he had to admit he had never seen another Alephmon.
“Me! Throw me a hand I’m the Levin boss in the letter!” Aleph waving his hands as he ran alongside the boat as it started to slowly float away. Sails catching the nice breeze to bring them out.
“Stay off me ship!” The Terriermon now seen to have a snazzy little vest and belt sash as well as his hat. And a sword. Uh oh! Levin trying to stand ready as the other three Gazimon moved to the side of the ship. Grabbing rope to toss over and down to the other two as Levin faced the Captain. Sword swishing and slicing the air as the Terriermon growled. “You’ll have a mighty debt Gaziscum! Going to work you for years.”
“Never!” Levins teeth starting to glow as small sparks jumped between them. “I work for helping people! Not forcing those who already suffered!” The Electric Stun Blast firing out of his mouth toward the Captain who quickly slashed downward to intercept the ball. The blade screaming as it slid into the shocking ball. Not fully separating it in two but taking a chunk out of it and not being hit by the majority of it. And slowing him down. All good stuff!
The other Freelancers managing to leap and grab onto the rope before the boat picked up too much speed or get too far away. Being pulled up as quick as the other Gazimin could as Levin spread out his feet and clapped his hands together. Electricity starting to arc between his claws now as the Terriermon growled at him. If only he had his Digimental! But he’d make due with this as the sword was stabbed toward his chest. Levin crossing his claws in front of the point as the metal sparked off his charged claws. Pushing the Gazimon backwards across the deck but saving him from the slash that came next. Squinting in the pain that shot down his arms Levin tried to focus. Keeping his claws crossed and moving sideways to try and stay in between the two groups.
“Almost up!”
“Almost mine! Outa the way!” The Captain hissed as he brought back the sword to swing again - and did so. But before the strike was delivered he would pull the blade back. Just keeping the spin going himself as those large ears flew right over Levins blocking arms to smack into his face. Sending the Gazimon flipping sideways tail over ears.
Ow.
Levin looking up from between his feet at the spinning world to see the green blob quickly leap over toward the other group. Before the clang of steel on steel would let him know that Aleph had managed to get up to join the battle. Stry hopefully made it too as Levin worked on flopping onto his side rather than his shoulders so he could try to get back up. Focusing on his own hands pushing him off the deck and not the shouts of battle. Focus. It was potentially six on one. They were fine. But when he finally got up to a kneel he looked up to see that the Terriermon was gone? And everyone was looking at him? Before he was driven back into the deck as the Captain landed on his shoulders before spinning off toward the forecastle. Landing rather expertly on several barrels as he smirked at those now much shorter than he still on the main deck. And without a barrel booster.
“Now! All you scum and scum helpers! Take this!” And those nice tall, heavy, barrels would start to move forward. Then on their sides as they started to roll. “I’ll throw ya in the brig damaged or otherwise!” Aleph and Stry running forwards with arms out as they tried to stop the rolling barrels. Both turning to try and brace their backs to the barrels and feet to the deck for a better foundation. to But a cackle and a fwoosh of air from those large ears speed them up rapidly. As well as pushing the two Digimon over. Aleph onto his front and Stry onto his back. As the barrels rolled over top of them. Muffled marfs and oppfs from the two as the barrels continued on their way. Now flat again. Though the four Gazimon still had the barrels rolling toward them to deal with. Levin managing to roll to the side to avoid the first one before looking back to see that a second seemingly had his name on it.
Trying to reach out to grab onto something he felt it on his tail first. Before, on instinct, he blew the air out his lungs and relaxed as much as he could. Flat was better than broken. Aleph had a point there. As the Gazimon was squished and rolled over by the barrel to end up flat like his fellows. The other Gazimon who had been hanging back managing to take cover behind the mast in time to avoid getting flattened as they squealed in fear. Seeing the flat Freelancers as game over for them. Not that the currently squished Digimon could see much of anything.
“Take that!” The Captain called out over the banging and clattering as those barrels ran into firm surfaces to stop their crushing assault. “That’ll learn you for trying to take my property. On MY ship!” That sword swooshed around dramatically before pointing at the three sets of ears taking cover behind the main mast. “You three! Where I can see you now!” And sheepishly the three would do so. Claws out before them as they looked at the deck between their feet. Not looking at the Captain or their hopeful flat rescuers. “Good! Now get these three and get them into the brig! Got loads of manners to beat into them and work after!”
“Yes Cappn,” they murmured in unison before they walked forward. Starting to pull Levin off the deck and laying him over one of their shoulders. Not that Levin could think very clearly smooshed as he was but the grip felt…powerful. Determined. The three now moving toward Aleph and Stry as the Captain spun down to stand between them. Smirking down at them as he flicked his sword from pointing at one and then back to the other.
“Let this be a lesson you FreeLosers! You win nothing and now you are mine!” The Gazicrewmen moving to be next to the two as the sword kept flicking. The grip around Levins middle tightening up as the still flat Levin would place his hands on the back of the Gazimon holding him. Straining and trying to add more electricity to his fellow lightning bun. As he heard and somewhat saw the fur on the ears of the other two start to stand up. They were planning something. And as the Captain was still staring down at the flatmons below him he had no chance to dodge the triple grab that was thrown at him.
All the Gazimon grabbing him in a group hug as they shut their eyes and surged as much electricity between each other as they could. One hand on another Gazimon, including Levin, and the other on the Captain. Whose sword glowed and sparked from the surge that was pushed through its holder which then rerouted back through him again. Back into the Gazimon then back again. But unlike the zap buns the Terriermons body was not at all used to dealing with stuff like that. The Gazimon tails snapping out to rest agains the metal bands of the barrels to ground themselves enough to not take the full rebound as there was a clatter of metal. Eyes opening to show them a twitching hergugeging Terriermon in their hands. And Levin now back to normal size! Shifting and squirming around till he could look back and nod in approval!
“Nicely done! Right.” Some more shifting to be back on his feet as he wobbled a bit before drumming his claws on a metal band of his own to bleed off some of the excess. The Terriermon dropped to the deck between the Flatmons as his sword was nudged away by still charged claws of the other Gazi as Levin coughed out a few sparks. “Damn,” language! “That was a lot of charge. Statmon levels!” Not bothering to stop and explain that as he pointed at the rope used to haul up his fellows. “Grab that so you can get him restrained. I’ll work on getting these two back up.” The other Gazimon nodding as they skittered off to do so. Soon rolling the Terriermon, who was attempting to speak but just kept twitching and hissing, up in several wraps of rope and even removing his hat! Tossed onto the deck near the hat as Levin peeled up Alephs left hand and Strys right as he sat between them. Eyes shut and ears soon upright almost like an old TV antenna as he worked to transfer some of his energy into the other two. The marfs and blerfs soon replaced by more normal words like ‘wha’ and ‘ow’. Progress! And before long they were breathing more normally and able to see a bit more than swirls in their eyes!
“Yew skum!” The former Captain growled out as he lay on the deck glaring at them all. “Gnna werkk yew sa hrd!”
“Not anymore you wont!” Aleph declaring as he moved over to the Gazimon who were just finishing securing the rope bindings. “Great work you three! You did it all yourselves!”
“Well…you helped. Showing us that we can resist. And being distractions.”
“See!” Stry joining in. “Teamwork to help yourselves. Great to see.” Levin wandering back toward the wheel of the boat as the little group cheer session continued. He was happy too. But wasn’t a fan of the dock getting further away. Not a fan of getting to deeper water. At all. So grabbing that big wheel he worked on pulling it down to start the vessels slow turn around. Before finally calling over as the boat pitched to the side.
“You all did great! Hopefully the grumble ears there is wanted for something so we can get some bonus. Besides all that good feeling.”
“And less stupid work.” One of the Gazimon pining hopefully.
Turned out that the Terriermon wasn’t wanted by the dock authorities. No big bounty for his hat. No big conspiracy where he was a wanted Mon that was paying off the dock authorities to use the place still. But the sword and hat did sell well! As did the cargo the Terriermon was transporting. Was it stolen? Records didn’t even say that. But it was all calculated up and paid off for the town to have instead. The grumble ears eventually untied and flying off over the towns roofs. Cursing the crew and claiming it wasn’t the last they would see of him! But any concerns didn’t last long. They had things to sell and victory to consume!
But the ship? That couldn’t be sold so easily. Too expensive. The Gazimon crew would need to hang around to work to try and get that to sell. Which they were happy to do now that they knew the money would be theirs. To try and get out of the town and find something for them to do themselves. Levin, over a victory burger, even offered them a chance to work with the Freelancers. But the three declined. They weren't ready to join another crew that early after this one. They wanted some time to wander around and find out what else there was. Just with the Bits to pay for what they needed without getting into trouble for having to steal and fight for it. Which made Levin quite happy. As did the Bits the Gazimon gave him, Aleph, and Stry for their help. A fine payday! He could get some more rare Physical World artifacts with this! Aleph and Stry happy as they could help upgrade the Castle with this!
What wasn’t nearly as fun was the four day bus ride back to said Castle. That ate up a chunk of those funds for food and the trip itself. Especially after a second ticket for the three of them were needed. It wasn’t entirely their fault they missed getting back on the bus!
Just mostly.
