Today marks International Polar Bear Day, so I’m excited to share a gouache‑and‑ink illustration I created for the occasion. The piece celebrates these remarkable animals and raises awareness of the climate‑driven threats they face. It shows two of my own polar bear characters—Akna, a plump and well fed mother, and her curious cub, Tapeesa—standing beneath a shimmering aurora that ripples across their Arctic sky. I’m drawn to polar bears for their graceful presence despite their massive size, and because they embody life thriving in one of the planet’s harshest environments. 🐻❄️
