I don't think that this is the same one from the earlier Miss begotten kittens chapter but whether it is or isn't as I remember it the nanobytes basically disassemble any material that was not part of the body when they were injected into the body. Because of that I find it odd that he could have replacement eyes. Even if the eyes are fully mechanical I don't know how the nanobots will allow it to function and not simply remove them and regrow his original eyes
