A Short Story
The kitten Dante escaped from an orphanage into the wilderness. But then he came across a huge female bear. Dante prepared himself to be killed and eaten by the bear. But the bear took a liking to the young kitten and offered him a place to live with her, to learn how to survive, and even to grow very big and strong. The bear introduced herself to him as Elia and took him into her den. Dante was determined to learn and become as strong as his new mother bear. Dante learned to hunt (especially to catch salmon), to eat like a bear, and to fight like a bear. Elia devoted herself to being Dante's mother and teacher. But as winter approached, she had to prepare him to survive it, since she herself would hibernate. The winter months were particularly challenging for Dante, as he had to search for food and slept at night beside his mother bear. Indeed, Dante began to grow in size and muscle mass, and his mother bear watched with satisfaction.
