Zhat Zhing appears to be ancient, forgotten but highly advanced technology. Find out where it came from and there may well be more of them. Whoever made them may well have also made a counter-agent. Although by the time such an item is located, Kass might have adjusted to the point of not wanting to go through another change.
The transformation may also be complicated by the lack of biomass. A yinglet doesn't have the size to become an adult human, so Kass might end up as a toddler. That would be embarassing.

Wow. It feels like it's been a long, LONG while since Kass last let the "scav" slur slip. He's really shaken up.
(I just got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago for the first time since the COVID lockdowns. I have some degree of sympathy for both "fekkin' hair in my fekkin' eyes" and "there is a stranger in my mirror now and I don't know how to feel about that".)

Kass is stuck within his character design >,.< Can relate though, I started covering my hair again last year, and only after that had become part of my identity was I able to take the big leap to giving myself an asymmetrical undercut.
But also my hair suddenly started bothering me and I had to adjust it just from reading this. It's like a sneeze, it is contagious, all girls know this but I love the fact that it is his male hair here >,.< Kass is so perfectly depicting the horror of having hair and a face at the same time. Also those eyelashes and eyebrow-whisker things must be so sensitive...
Now excuse me while I go brush my hair 1000 times and give myself a late-night trim in the mirror.

Not a bad idea at all. Though Kass also needs a good cover story, as it is not yet time to go public with the whole transformation deal - not while the Yinglet political situation remains unresolved.
I'd go with the almost-true version: Last survivor of a lost caravan or enclave, all members presumed dead. Rescued by human parents who knew nothing about yinglets. Raised and educated as a human until forced to flee the war, travelled with other refugees. Hired by the Trademaster who recognised the potential use of a yinglet in such unique circumstances.
Vizlet can help with a few specifics. Once that's established - a story that explains all of Kass's weird behaviours - she can speak to Poak. Who has recognised skill in the area of emotional support, and may well be able to give Kass a sympathetic ear. Poak is a good first patriarch to introduce Kass to properly: Calm, understanding, and not the type to steer the conversation towards breeding schedules right away.

Late to post on this one: I think Isher's rapid healing ability (both in speed and how serious a wound that penetrates several layers can close over without complications) is every bit on the level of "science so advanced it's freaking magic" as that green juice what transformed Kass. Both are marvels of bio-engineering, if that's the correct field of science.
Also, I really like the creture faces Kass was making three pages back. There. Caught up.
So, this page. Am I wrong in seeing Kass picking the hair holders back up as representation for his current situation? He can't fix his condition, he can't give up his past self, so he takes the practical compromise, the temp fix that allows him to function through the work day without giving up entirely on himself. Keep the scavs happy, but remember there's still something about me that isn't of the ying.
Ah, but biology will have its say, too. And what happens when he's surrounded by Yinglets full time? Will he begin to model their behavior, their way of speaking, and perhaps along with that, their way of thinking? How will increased social interactions affect Kass, because he'll get more of that than ever before. And this time he doesn't have a human companion to anchor him.

Been here so many times. I live in an agonizingly conservative area and they judge big time on long hair. So when job hunting I cut it and as soon as I have that job if they have no rule against it I let it grow out again. And there is always this middle phase of its growth that is designed to stab me in my eye meats. Constantly.
Clearly the solution is to go hijabi! Half-joke because I wear an asymmetrical lesbian undercut under mine.
But back in my day, covering your head is what demonstrated professionalism and respect (in church or the workplace). And if their hair was too -short-, men had to wear collars high enough to cover their necks. All these people running around with their crew-cuts out on display are just LARPing at being conservative.

My first comment on this site (please don't mind my wacky english)
I'm sincerely amazed of your commitment to this story for all these years.
Thank you for that, as I deeply enjoy your world and this story. I'm at the point were I'd wish it were a book series to immerse myself deeper into it.
I hope you will manage to see the end.

Good hello, OOPs friends! I'm here to remind you once again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at 747+ votes and 27th place. It's currently at 749 votes and 37th place. The highest it's reached is 24th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something over 20,000+ votes, at least recently.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

Funny, when I vote on my iPhone, I click the identify character to vote, then page back. The character question on the way back is the same as the identification I made. But when I do a desktop, I identify a character, then page back and a new character shows.
That's the real question that I'm wondering here personally. He doesn't seem like he'll be happier in having one of his few remaining tethers to what he seems to cling to as his real identity, despite how much easier it would be to just embrace being a yinglet woman, something his still quite human brain seems to reject out of sheer identity contrast.
But at least his hair will be out of his eyes, and at least he'll be more pleasing to the other yinglets...

I haven't heard Kass drop the hard "S" in while it feels like. He's in a dower mood so I can see why. Hair in the eyes is super annoying; I for whatever reason, perhaps laziness, has let my hair grow out and it'a frequent problem.
Also, it looks like it'd still be a chore to get his hair in those things without some help.

This definitely makes it feel like his identity is still human, at least to me, so much so he's desperate to cling to any last vestiges that he can of his former self.
Giving that up feels like mourning the death of himself, and the idea that he'll ever be able to realize it again, forced more deeply than ever to conform to the conditions set upon him by these inconvenient changes that life and society is dealing him, rather than the identity that he seems to so desperately want despite the difficulties.
Tragic to think how relatable that may seem to all too many people.
