Those of you who follow my work, or at least are aware of me, will know that one thing I wish more video games would be willing to try is the concept of being corrupted by your enemies in ways that go beyond fade-to-credits bad ends. We already have the idea of perma-death in series like Fire Emblem and many hardcore Pokemon players play the games where, once a Pokemon has fainted then it's out for good. And again, I know doing this would be a tricky maneuver, as you have to consider animation and particle movement, setting aside special coding for NPCs and dialogue, perhaps making entirely new NPCs, levels and questlines to give the corruptions some flavor and a bevy of other things I ain't aware of becuase I don't have a job in the games industry.
(Though it seems that'd make me on par with a lot of the executives, am I right?)
Anyways, this is a concept I have explored once or twice with the Psychonauts series, and here is my attempt at making a more concise guide to such scenarios. For extra spice, I decided to make this happen in the form of a new power the ever-eager Razputin and Lili come across, one that can have consequences if used improperly. After all, seeing the color of the sky in someone else's world for too long might trick you to think that's how it's always looked.
Special thanks to tanasweet123 on DA (Jude567 on here) for not only making the preview image of the Assimilation power icon (for clarification, I commissioned them to do so), but also allowing me to use some of their own concept enemies and the images they reside in. Here's a link to their gallery: https://www.deviantart.com/tanasweet123/gallery
Would also like to note that while tanasweet did do art of Conformity, that enemy design itself is mine.
As an aside, you will notice that reference images for the enemies actually in Psychonauts are missing. That is because for some inexplicable, God-forsaken, Stella Goetia-pleasin reason, no image I could find of the boogers decided they wanted to work with the formats I was using. Eventually, I decided to throw up my hands. If those ungrateful little sardines didn't want to take part in this little work of mine, forcing their sections to appear less professional and leave all the glory to tanasweet's fan creations, then that's their business. And if I be struck down for such a decision, then I better get a plush penthouse pad in the Pride Ring, or Stuffy as my witness, I will instigate a demonic upheaval of brainwashing madness the likes of which Vox could only dream about!
...
... in other words, enjoy!
