Judy and Nick just stood there in Bogo's doorway. They didn't know who this mysterious white tigress was, or what it was she was here for. They looked at each other and then back at Bogo. “Uh. Chief?” Nick said. “Mind telling us who this is?”
“Just get on in here you two.” Said Bogo as he gestured his hand to the chair again. “Close the door behind you.” As Nick made his way to the chair, Judy closed the door and followed him afterwards. After they got comfortable in the chair, Bogo sat up straight in his own chair. “Now then, allow me to introduce our guest here.”
The tigress stepped forward and extended her hand out for Judy and Nick to shake it. “Pleased to meet you both.” Nick shook her hand first, and then Judy. “My name is Purrtricia Bengalton. Deputy director of the Bureau of Mammal Investigations.”
Judy's eyes widened with surprise and almost mild excitement. “The BMI? The agency that handles threats that endanger national security and violate federal law?”
Purrtricia grinned at Judy's statement. “The very same, Miss Hopps.”
Nick looked on in confusion and a little concern. Despite the fact he spent most of his life as a street hustler, and only a rookie cop for a month, he knew about the BMI and the threats they dealt with. Because of this, he couldn't help but speak his mind. “Hold on, why is such a clandestine group of animals here in Zootopia? That could only mean something serious is going on in the city again isn't it?” Judy looked at Nick with her own expression of concern. She knows all too well about his quick observations and ability to read the room. Purrtricia looked at Nick, and raised her one eyebrow in surprise. But at the same time, she was also impressed he was able to pick up on the situation right away.
“Impressive.” She said as she smiled at Nick. “Seems those street smarts of yours are as keen as the dossier says.”
Nick became dumbfounded. “I have a dossier?”
Bogo cleared his throat. “Moving on. There is in fact an important matter to discuss, that Miss Bengalton here wants to talk to about. Something we already discussed with Mayor Jaguarez before you two arrived. This information stays between you two, myself, and the mayor and does not leave this room. Understood?”
Judy's eyes widened with a little gasp in her breath and then looked at Nick. “So THAT'S why Alex was here earlier.” They both looked back at Bogo to show him they acknowledged his words by nodding in unison.
“Good. Now then.” He turned to Purrtricia. “Miss Bengalton? I believe they should now see what you showed us earlier.”
“Right.” Purrtricia reached behind Bogo's desk and lifted up a metal briefcase. She set it down on the desk and opened it up. She pulled out a yellow case file and a tablet. The case file was set in front of Judy and Nick. “You can go ahead and open it.”
A few seconds passed before Judy was the first to reach out to look inside the file. Some part of her felt like what she was about to see was going to be rather surprising, but in a bad way. Upon opening it, her eyes widened again, but with more astonishment than last time. Nick's expression was more of slight confusion, but once he looked at the photos in the file more closely, his own eyes almost widened to the same levels of astonishment. What they saw were three different torso shot photos of a mysterious figure dressed in a black trench coat and fedora. But the most alluring feature was the strange white mask they were wearing in each photo. All of which were of a different animal species. One was a raccoon, the other a hyena, and the third was a wolf.
Nick reached out and grabbed one of the photos. “What in the world?”
Judy placed her hands on the other two photos and pulled them closer to her as her nose began to twitch. “Who are THEY?”
“Actually,” said Purrtricia, “They're all the same individual. The only thing different about them is the masks they wear.”
Nick looked up at her from the photo in his hand. “First of all, why are they wearing masks? And second and most importantly, what is this?”
Purrtricia took in a gentle breath and exhaled. “This individual you see here, who we're simply calling 'Anonymous' due to the fact we don't know their species of animal or even their gender, is someone we've been trying to find for about a month now. We believe they could be here somewhere in Zootopia.” Judy's nose twitched again as she looked up from the file as Nick set his photo down. Their attention had been completely seized now. “Roughly a month ago, Anonymous made their first appearance.” She reached for the tablet and turned it on. “Well, sort of.” She tapped a few times on the screen and turned it towards Judy and Nick. “I warn you both; this may sound a little unnerving.”
They both leaned in slightly to see a video file with Anonymous wearing the raccoon mask from the one photo. Once the loading icon disappeared, the video played. “Greetings BMI agent.” Their voice was distorted to make it impossible to know what their gender was. “By now you're probably wondering who I am and what it is I have done. Rest assured, you'll learn the latter soon enough.” Judy's nose twitched some more as Nick began to look a little uneasy. “The victim, Mr. Ellis Cooper, will be comatose for one week's time. When he awakens, he will have no memory of himself, his life or anyone else. Not even the fox that he has begun to share his life with.” Nick's eyes widened a little as he leaned in a little closer to the tablet. “While different animals may coexist, two different species can NOT be together, and I will ensure that it stays that way. The natural order will be restored, and this is where it begins.” The video stopped playing.
As Purrtricia turned off the tablet and placed it back in the briefcase, Judy began to pant as Nick slumped back into the chair. “I said it would be unnerving,” Purrtricia said as she clasped her hands together. “Many at the agency did as well.”
Judy took a deep breath to help calm herself down. “That was...indeed unsettling.”
Nick placed his hand on her shoulder and looked at her with concern. “Carrots. If you need to take a minute, I won't blame you. I think I do as well.”
“It's okay Nick,” she said as she placed her hand on his. “I'm fine.”
“Now then,” said Bogo, “I'm sure you both have some questions.”
Nick chuckled sarcastically. “I'd say we have a LOT of questions Chief.”
Bogo scoffed under his muzzle. “Indeed.” He turned to Purrtricia. “Miss Bengalton?”
“Right.” She reached out to the file on the desk and a laid out three other photos of three different animals. A raccoon, a hyena, and a wolf. All of which were male. “As you heard from the video, Anonymous was referring to this animal here.” She placed her index finger on the photo of the raccoon. “This is Mr. Ellis Cooper. He lives in the city known as Sylvan Glade, about five-hundred miles do East of Zootopia. As you also heard from the video, he was in fact in a relationship with a fox. Her name is Montoya Vulpine.”
Judy looked at the other photos of the other two animals. “And who are they?”
Purrtricia pointed at the Hyena. “This is Ben Cackleton, and Sam Furguson. HE was in a relationship with a red panda, and HE was in a relationship with a fox as well. They both lived in a different city as well, each far away from Zootopia, but also as the second and third closest cities to here.”
Judy's ears stood up as she looked at Purrtricia, knowing full well that she knew where she was going with this. “Wait. Are you saying that...?”
“We believe that the next target location, is in fact Zootopia. We also have reason to believe that Anonymous may already be here in the city somewhere.”
Nick rubbed the back of his neck while still expressing concern. “Oh boy. This day just got a lot more interesting than I was expecting.
Judy shook her head and held up her hands. “Wait wait wait, hold on. There's still a lot I don't understand.” She began to point at all the items Purrtricia had shown them, one by one. “Why the masks? Why interspecies couples? And what was all that stuff about Mr. Cooper being comatose for a month and losing his memory?”
“Calm yourself Miss Hopps.” Purrtricia said holding her own hands up in defense. “I was going to get to all of that.” She reached back into her briefcase and pulled out a few more photos. She splayed them out in front of Judy and Nick. “I'm sure you two are familiar with THESE two?” The first two photos showed Dawn Bellwether and Doug Ramses's mugshots. The other showed an image of the Night Howler flowers.
Judy showed mild shock and disgust. “Yeah. We're all to familiar with them and the Night Howlers.”
“Well,” said Purrtricia, “After the first incident with Anonymous in Sylvan Glade was discovered, the BMI decided to pay Miss Bellwether a visit. As it turns out, Dawn and Anonymous know each other.”
“What?” Nick said as both his and Judy's ears shot up. “How do they know each other?”
Purrtricia pointed at Doug's photo. “Mr. Ramses here may be a great marksman, but it turns out he isn't exactly a skilled chemist. Nor is Miss Bellwether. Meaning, that someone else taught them how to refine the Night Howlers into the serum that made animals go savage.” She could see the Judy and Nick were trying to process all the info they had just been given. She continued to speak, regardless if it was about to pile on even more for them to process as well. “Whoever Anonymous is, Dawn told us that they approached her with the Night Howler plan, and that they would be developing their own unique serum for another purpose.”
“Wait,” said Judy. “Dawn just GAVE you this information?”
“Indeed.” Purrtricia said with slight discomfort in her tone. “As shameful as it is for me to admit, this Anonymous knew that BMI would be investigating their actions. That's why they mentioned us in the video. They actually wanted us to know about what it is they're doing. They're confident that they won't be captured or have their plans ruined. They even told Bellwether that when we came to question her, she'd tell us what they wanted her to tell us.”
Nick reached out and touched Dawn's photo. “I don't suppose she told you who our mystery villain is by any chance?”
“Unfortunately, no. Bellwether never actually met them. She was contacted by them through untraceable means. What matters though, is that Anonymous is the one who invented the Night Howler serum, and also has some new serum that causes a medically induced coma and causes complete and total amnesia. No such flower or plant of any kind we've looked into could cause such things.” She knelt down to be at eye level with Judy and Nick. “Miss Hopps, Mr. Wilde. You both put an end the savage predator case and saved this city. The BMI humbly asks you both to help us with this new case. Help us put a stop to this before it ruins more innocent animal lives.”
Nick pondered for a moment then turned to Judy. He could see the look of determination on her face as she nodded to him. He looked back at Purrtricia. “Miss Bengalton? We'd be happy to help.”
“Just get on in here you two.” Said Bogo as he gestured his hand to the chair again. “Close the door behind you.” As Nick made his way to the chair, Judy closed the door and followed him afterwards.
