Experimental piece for
. Keddie Wye, CA. He's only been waiting for his gift piece for like, 3 years since I first proposed this.
This is my first piece made in Krita instead of GIMP. I gotta say, I like it, even though the keybinds took a bit of getting used to. Expanding layers that don't crash the program randomly is nice. Still trying to learn what brushes I like. Not a huge fan of the way the color scheme on the background turned out, but I didn't want to spend too much time constantly rehashing this piece. Getting the scenery right took a lot of staring at reference images and USGS topo maps, but formwise I think it came out well enough. I never really know how to draw my trees, so there's that too, and unshaded because I kind of couldn't be bothered with everything here. Just pretend it's midday.
Side note: Holy crap Krita files are massive. The full res file for this drawing, at 662.6MB, is now the largest file in my art directory, beating out SS United States V2 (500MB) and DC-7 fox (378MB).
(Attempted) digital painting of the Keddie Wye, California. A train pulled by three Western Pacific GP9 and GP20 series locomotives, road numbers front to back 725, 2001, and 729, pulls a consist of front to back: WP boxcar, SP boxcar, SP hopper, GNR (Canadian) boxcar, Burlington boxcar and flatcar, Santa Fe boxcar, heading southeast coming out of the northwest tunnel. A gray and silver shark-wolf hybrid and blue snow leopard watch the train from a rocky outcrop near the mouth of the northwest tunnel.
Made in Krita 5.2.15, January-February 2026. Huion Inspiroy 2L
