Kalamitys is a rocky planet slightly smaller than venus but larger than mars, resulting in a lower surface gravity, though the atmosphere is at similar levels to earth in most places. There is a low gravitational anomaly in the north western hemisphere that makes it very low in elevation compared other regions of the planet so it has slightly higher surface atmospheric pressure.

The atmospheric composition is similar to earth however it has more oxygen, allowing cyber megafauna to exist. The climate of the planet is arid in the east and humid in the west where most of the water is.

The planet appears to have some tectonic activity, as there are mountain ranges and active volcanoes. The northeastern region has several huge mountains and plateaus which capture snow.

Recent history: The planet was colonised by humans for a few thousand years. While the planet had earthlike conditions, it was devoid of life upon discovery except for pockets of xeno-bacteria in remote subduction zones, so humans terraformed the planet by introducing flora and importing some water. During human colonisation the planet was ruled by a single government, however there was a great cataclysm and the means of travel outside the star system was destroyed. It has been a few centuries since and the planetary government was succeeded by new nations.

The main faction in the current era is the commonwealth, a coalition of most of the sapient species. Outside the commonwealth the land is dominated by monsters and plagued with cyber viruses that can transmit rogue AI. There are several large polities called brainbug hives which are hiveminds of insectoid cyborg creatures that compete with the commonwealth over resources.
