The wolf God!
I think it's cool how the Japanese word for "Wolf"(Okami) is legit just the Japanese word for "God"(Kami) in a sense, pretty much saying "the wolf is God"?
I live in the US and we still have wild wolves, but a lot of farmers hate wolves because they kill livestock. Meanwhile, Japanese Farmers views on wolves feels like the complete opposite where they legit miss wolves and pray to them because they protected their crops from deer and boars that would destroy them. Like a Japanese farmer became viral on the news for using an animatronics wolf or werewolf as a "scarecrow" to ward off invasive animals destroying plants like boars.

Japan is an agricultural country, and wolves were a valuable agricultural partner, hunting down large herbivores that damaged crops, but they were also fearsome creatures that attacked people. I think people considered them to be gods of the wild that demanded sacrifices, and tried to coexist with them.
