When Wax Hippo won the lottery, the first thing he did was head on down to a high-end department store, and try on a fancy outfit so he could look the part. Then he bought a bubblegum cigar, since all rich tycoons smoke cigars. He’s probably gonna spend the rest of his fortune on an elaborate mansion, with a private movie theater to watch cartoons in, an expansive library for his comic collection, an art gallery to display all his furry art, a ballroom and banquet hall where he can host lavish shindigs, a kitchen with a personal chef to cook him hippo-sized meals, and of course, a humid greenhouse where he’ll grow tropical plants, featuring a king sized swimming pool complete with diving boards, a water slide, a lazy river, and definitely a waterfall, so he can feel like he’s back in the jungle.

Commissioned by  WaxHippo. I’ve been trying to draw good hippos since I started cartooning, but this is for sure my best one yet. I am very proud of how this turned out. Wax wanted a green coat and hat, so I made sure to use dark shades of all colors so he didn’t look like a leprechaun or Willy Wonka. The point of this commission was for Wax to see how he looked in formal attire, and while it is just whimsical enough to suit his character, it’s still formal enough to suit a gentleman. And the reason his belly button is still visible (aside from it being cute) is because it’s July so he’s wearing a dickey instead of a shirt to stay cool.
