While nominally a Chief Engineer is supposed to be mostly managing the department, Nexus prefers a much more hands-on approach to hir duties, when time allows. Even with modern wireless and EPS conduits providing power, old-fashioned wired controls are still needed for backup, and the level 3 diagnostics showed a fault but couldn't isolate where in the control runs it was. Thus, time to head into the maintenance accessways to check with the old Mk 1 eyeball... or maybe Mk 2 technically, given the improvements that Starwalker foxtaurs are heir to. Thankfully, hir kind was designed to be able to work in cramped passages such as these, but given the opportunity shi might still have a few words with whomever Jeffries is about accessibility!
