Ooh, this is some real mafioso/yakuza type drama here. And a cool origin for a classic character.

I had been waiting patiently, faithfully, for background on the Horse Clan prior to their release. Instead, I find myself with newfound insight into the backstory of Erika -- the reveal that she did not receive her position of authority through treachery or nepotism, but by earning the respect of the previous Viper Clan head.

Villain or not, it's surprising to see that, as cruel and ruthless a crime boss as she is, Erika started out not as an heiress or a competing lieutenant, but a secretary for the previous leader...who, as much of a monster as HE was, favored her over his sons (who, I gather, were techbro oligarch spoiled slimeballs).

A little depth can be a surprising thing.
