WELL i know they had also mistake of him constantly changing his actual length and MAYBE size too
And no, it means that his "snake" tongue is like a separate element that is not in the model?..
I donno, i never worked on 3d models, cursed anyways :D

Yup, he literally has two tongues modeled. There's an interview where they note they couldn't get each one individually to do what they wanted, so they did both. His length and size also change significantly between scenes.
