"What's a team without teammates? While Jack settles into his new life as a competitive skydiver, let's introduce two of Jack's friends on the Shooting Stars: Remedy the White-Tailed Deer, and Tai the Serval (currently fighting his own parachute unfortunately).
Remedy is the other new recruit to the Cherryton Academy Shooting Stars skydiving performance team; unlike Jack, who walked onto the team with no airsports experience whatsoever, she's had experience in wind tunnels and the occasional static line parachute jump. She's been wanting this ever since she was a fawn, growing up on stories of her father's time as a skydiving instructor in the US Air Force. She's also the Parachute Club's only regularly jumping herbivore; the others are preparing for college, so they don't exactly have time to participate. Nevertheless, she more than makes up for her relative lack of experience and idealistic outlook on this still-dangerous sport with striking amounts of talent; she can best be summed up as the Shooting Stars's 'ace', great in freestyle freefall rounds and canopy flight competitions--the bits where judges are always watching with a keen eye. She even choreographs their freestyle routines, with the occasional help of Drama Club member (and canon character) Sheila the Leopard.
Tai the Serval, though you can't see him right now, is the team's camera jumper, required for freestyle freefall competitions, and its own. Though technically not a member of the Parachute Club (he's part of the Newspaper Club, and was embedded in the Parachute Club as part of a 'special interest' column), he was enlisted by the club's faculty liaison to make sure they could stay competitive in freestyle--and he never really looked back. He's great with a camera, even in freefall. But, as a member of the Shooting Stars, that means he has to be a team player and actually participate in all of their rounds.
To close the gap between himself and Justice on accuracy and canopy flight competitions, he secretly taps into herbivore blood packets taped to the inside of his parachute's riser covers. This sharpens his senses and makes him much more adept under canopy, but he needs time to come down from the high--hence, after accuracy jumps, he tends to hide underneath his parachute for a while so no one can see his wild eyes. He worries he's getting addicted to it, and by the time the plot of the manga and anime begins, he's actually trying to quit the habit before his friends find out, but with him in a relationship, he feels like he needs to impress his girlfriend--hence, it's hard to stop. That's not what's happening here, though, the wind's got him pinned beneath his 'chute and he can't get out."
Part of Digolgrin 's 'Skydiver Jack' Beastars AU, also thanks him for the title and story.
'Shooting Stars' Justice, Remedy and Tai are Beastars OCs created by Digolgrin and Trc001.
