Chief was always one of my favorite characters in the movie. Even as a kid, when I saw Robin Hood I instantly recognized the Sheriff having the same voice as him

They were originally going to kill him off, but decided not to.

They changed it because they didn't want an on-screen death right? I am really glad they changed it, because the fate of the characters in the book were depressing.
