Story (I tried a different style for this story, something like a blogpost. Hope it reads kind of like one!):
I was lost in the desert when that radiant savior found me. I saw something sparkle while traveling with the caravan guides, that shimmering that us crowfolk can never leave alone. I knew that if they saw me try and lead off into the desert myself they would stop me, so I slowed my pace very slightly until I was out of their sight and flew as quickly and as quietly as I could to get the shiny. I flew and flew and eventually made it to the shiny thing, a sword of sorts embroidered with gold and fancy gemstones I know not the name of, but this flight had taken a toll on me. The heat was strong, I knew that already, but I didn't realize how exhausted it would make the measly 10 km flight. I reached for my canteen only to find it was not on my belt where I had left it. "Right" I said to myself, "I gave it to one of the merchants to fill up before I spotted the shiny and he hadn't given it back yet due to the lively conversation he was having with the rhinofolk lady." (I never got her name, but she was very beautiful!).
It was only a short flight back, maybe an extra 5km or so more than my flight to the shiny, so I lifted my wings ready to fly. And fly I did... for maybe a km or so. The compounded exhaustion beat away at me even faster than before, and the next thing I knew I hit the sand dune hard. I considered for a moment laying covered in the sand, the inner sections of it were cooler than the outer grains, but no! I had to make it back. I forced myself up and began walking. My pace was slow and after a few hours I realized it had went from a saunter to a crawl. To make things worse, the lack of water mixed with the heat made me see things. An Oasis, a place for water, for rehydration! I moved as fast as I could over to it, only to find more sand... a mirage... of course. I laid down in the sand ready to give up, when I heard a voice call to me. I looked up, expecting to see a mirage of family or friends or perhaps layla, the cockatrice I had a crush on for a while, but instead saw my savior!
She was a jackalfolk, at least I think she was I forgot to ask, with black fur and long matching hair. She wore golden shiny jewelry and bandaged wrappings around her breasts and a large, red-bladed, scythe taller than herself. But that weapon didn't scare me. No. I didn't even take it in from the goddess that stood in front of me, holding her hand out to take me to my salvation. She wasn't a goddess, at least thats what she said after I knelt down in praise to her divinity for rescuing my poor soul, but to me she is. She helped me up, let me drink some of her water from her canteen, and then asked me if I needed guiding to a safe place. I, as dignified as you all know I am, plead for her to take me to the capital, the location I was going with the caravan. I explained what happened, the shiny, me forgetting my canteen, and the long trek I had made up to that point, and she didn't even give me a judging look! Ah, what a wonderful godde-, I mean savior, she is! She then said she'd guide me there. I asked how much it would cost: the shiny I had just found, the coin I had saved for my visit, my eternal servitude??? She just shook her head and told me that guiding lost wanderers to safety is what she was here for and that she didn't like taking compensation for it.
