not sure how many people will remember this, but if you went to google on valentines day 2017, you saw these two cute little red and purple characters around the google logo, and there was even a game about these guys called pangolin love. the game was made because pangolins were becoming endangered due to hunting. but its just a short but charming little 2d collectathon. these characters ive had in my memory since that day 9 years ago now and theyre mostly responsible for my love of pangolins today!
in late 2024 i played another google game called doodle champion island, and it actually had a brief cameo of these guys! i really liked that reference, and because of that i really wanted to draw these two last year but, well, i just forgot. but the plus side is that i drew something bigger than what i would have last year! including a whole scene and a cameo of the protagonist of champion island, lucky, on the right there. but yeah, i feel proud that i actually got to make this whole scene in one day this time
this picture takes place at a landmark called 'Around The Fish' in Sekondi, Ghana! it was built to symbolise its historical connections to the sea and its fishing industry. with the original capture, its very difficult to make out whats going on in the background so i had to make up a few details. i also changed the podium to the colours of the ghana flag, since thats how it looks in most photographs, but for some reason this specific capture didnt have that
oh, also the woolly on the bottom left is meant to be a plush, not sure if its communicated clearly enough.. but its kinda as a little easter egg/watermark (even though yo-yo and kiwi are there already but i added them later)
