This is a story about a 15 year old male human dreaming of turning into animals and then one day it happens for real as he turns into an eagle. This is a story I've been wanting to write for a while. Been posting it over on Royal Road. Will be posting until I catch up with my new posts there minus 10 chapters. If you like the story check out what I have there, love any reviews, follows, comments and such there if possible.

The next morning I woke up feeling excited. Weird, I'm usually wanting to go back to sleep. Maybe I'm coming down with something, but then I remembered a little bit of a dream, not the same one as before but a new one. I had been in some kind of underwater ruins and went swimming as a dolphin. It felt so vivid, but now I only remembered small details. It was pure joy to swim and leap like a dolphin, unlike anything I had ever experienced. Remembering the rush of speed, the water sliding across my smooth skin, made me long to feel it again.
Ohhhh, I should go swimming at the complex, it would be a great time to get some exercise and swim off the dream. I really hoped that Charlie would want to join me. Getting out of bed, my feet felt a bit wobbly as my limbs didn’t match the body map left from the dream. I managed to catch myself as I almost fell, even my arms felt off. What was going on? It was like my feet going to sleep, but much worse. Everything felt off for a few moments.
Grumbling, bleah, stupid feet. Once I could finally stand for more than a few moments, I noticed the light shining through my balcony door and realized that it was light. Well, that explains why I wasn't feeling super tired at the moment. I could probably run a marathon... or maybe swim one. I heard my sister in the TV room watching cartoons, and my mom was talking on the phone, something about us not making it for the Christmas Eve play as we were going to my grandparents. Thank God, I hated nothing more than Christmas Eve church. Going to spend an hour or so at church rather than at home Christmas Eve always sucked. I couldn't see my dad or his car, so he must have gone out for a bit.
Okay, I'm hungry. I moved over to the cupboard and grabbed myself a bowl and the Frosted Flakes and began to eat while waiting for my mom. What just was that dream? It felt so real. I liked swimming, but not to the level I would happily go to the pool by choice. My foot wouldn't stop jumping as I ate. Sitting still felt wrong, and I just wanted to run and move around quickly.
“Hey, Mom, I was thinking of going swimming today. Is there any chance you could take me? I’ll see if Charlie wants to go too.”
She gave me a nod. “Sure, it’s open to the general public at ten-thirty. Maybe your sister and I will join you two.”
Wow, no teasing. She normally has to beg me to go, but this time she seemed more than happy to take me.
YAY!!! I was excited and wanted to leap out of the water for joy... wait, that doesn't make sense. I scrunched up my nose in confusion. Bleah, just the stupid dream messing with my head.
It didn’t bother me if my mom came along. We would still be on our own most of the time. Please please say yes, I think as I call up Charlie, who quickly agrees to join me for swimming, though I could hear the skepticism in his voice that I would WANT to go. I felt minorly annoyed, mostly because I couldn't deny it was weird.
I ran upstairs, feeling frustrated as I couldn't find my swim trunks. Where are they? Come on, they have to be here, I think, before finding them under my bed where I must have tossed them. I had looked there twice but couldn't focus on anything. I ran downstairs, wanting to swim already. “Is it okay if Charlie comes over to play some games afterwards?”
She nodded. “That should be fine, though be sure to go outside for a bit while it’s still a nice day. I hear it may snow tonight.”
I gave a big smile. “Thanks, Mom,” I said quickly, running into the other room to watch some TV with my sister. She was watching Talespin, one of the shows that I really liked, reminding me of The Jungle Book movie, even if I HATED the Jungle Book's ending. FINALLY!! Mom called us to swim. I couldn't concentrate on the show, as all I could think of was swimming.
We met Charlie at the front door of the complex, and I grinned. “I haven’t had a good swim in ages, but today I feel like I could use one,” I said. I caught him giving a small questioning look at my excitement. I rolled my eyes. “No, I haven't gone insane... I don't think. Just wanted to go swimming,” I said to him in annoyance, hoping he didn't ask me to elaborate, as I didn't even know why.
We headed inside, and I felt full of energy as my mom paid for our time in the pools. The smell of chlorine made me even more excited to swim.
We headed into the lockers, waving to my mom and sister as they went into the girls’ section. I quickly got a locker and began to change a bit too fast, causing Charlie to say, “Slow down, we’ll get there.” I blushed, trying not to let my excitement get the better of me. I just managed to put my swim trunks on, my hands still trembling. I quickly headed past the showers without going in. I’d waited long enough. I could smell the water. The chlorine made my nose twitch in irritation, but the knowledge that I’d be swimming made me excited. Come on, come on, let's go! I thought as I heard Charlie behind me trying to catch up.
We jumped into the kids' section first and just lay there on the surface for a few minutes. Ahhhhh... that felt so much better. It was calm and relaxing. The feel of the water against my skin gave me a faint reminder of the dream. I was in such a playful mood that I dove under, swam over to my friend, and gave him a small swat before swimming off. He gave chase, but I stayed just out of reach until I hit the wall, grinning and panting. “Man, I haven’t enjoyed swimming like this in a long time.” This is what I felt in the dream, though not as good.
Charlie laughed and splashed water at me. “Maybe we should come by more often. It’s fun. Now if we can just convince the others to show up.” He looked at my sister. “Too bad Sarah isn’t older; she could join in some of our games.” I gave a small groan. Oh, not my sister. I liked her, but she could be a bit much at times.
I looked over to the diving boards and saw there wasn’t much of a line. Seeing the people dive in brought phantom sensations over me, soaring into the air before re-entering. Oh man, I really wish I could do that for real, but this was probably the closest I would get. It looked fun, and my mouth widened into a grin. “Want to go diving?” I asked.
