A more refined pic of my Marowak assassin, Necrosis. Here, you can see the still-current design for her bone staff/"bone-merang" which I based off of the giant bomerang used by Sango from "Inuyasha," although she rarely if ever actually throws it. I seem to be developing a strange sort of melee fighting style based around this bizarre weapon with each pic I draw of her.
As I developed Necrosis, I also researched into her source creature, and I am legitimately surprised both at the darkness and mystery of the story behind Marowaks and Cubones and the fact no fanfic writers have ever exploited it. I adapted it into Necrosis' origin by creating a sort of "ninja cult" known as "The Lonely Ones," a nihilistic tribe of killers who believe the only way to ensure their place in the afterlife is to withstand as much pain as possible, both physical and emotional. To this end, when a new Lonely One undergoes their rite of passage into adulthood (basically how they evolve from immature "in-training" Cubones into adolescent-to-adult Marowaks), the clan elder places a curse on them, a different one for each Marowak. In Necrosis' case, her curse was that she would forever betray those which she held dearest to their enemies, a curse she lived up to when she betrayed Tragedy and turned control of the Shadow Pack over to the Nameless.
