It's all about comfort. The pillow is soft and squishy, the blanket is also soft. While the bed itself looks like it has seen better days, with the mattress being all patched up and having springs coming out of it (which the bed Mimic can retract and control like limbs), people have reported that it's strangely comfy to lie on.
To an average person, these Mimics appear disguised. They come alive mostly at night, when they're sure nobody (with certain exceptions) can see them.
