Darksong, sometimes referred to as "Othimmiirik" if someone insists on using Draconic, is a green dragonborn in the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons & Dragons. A bard of the College of Whispers - not that he'll admit to that latter part - he's an evil but charming man who performs, manipulates, and collects secrets and influence in order to benefit himself and the dark god he worships. Other people can be useful or entertaining to him, but his social and romantic connections are seldom sincere - he's just pretty good at pretending to care about people to further his own ends. He's traveled a great distance in his relatively young life, moving on from place to place as needed, never leaving anywhere better than he found it. As a bard, he sings and plays the viol and a special flute that's also a dagger.
CLAIMED PERSONAL HISTORY/DETAILS
Darksong plays coy and secretive about his past. He admits he chose his name for himself, and that he's clanless; according to him, he was hatched clanless outside of the dragonborn homeland of Tymanther, though where exactly he claims to have originally come from varies depending on who's asking and when. He insists he doesn't know why his parents were clanless and professes not to care. Either way, he says he's been a traveler all of his life - making his way from town to town, city to city, nation to nation, plying his trade and his craft. He claims to follow the practices of the College of Lore, and does have a great many tales to share in story and song - though they're not always true. He enjoys performing, especially for the powerful and well-off, but isn't above playing small, lower-class venues. Still, he's not shy about being ambitious and wanting the more connected and well-to-do as clients and associates. Darksong sometimes professes to be a man of faith, though he insists that the specifics of such matters are private. Nonetheless he's happy to clarify that he doesn't worship Bhaal or Tiamat or really just about any of the evil gods most people can name off the top of their head.
ACTUAL PERSONAL HISTORY/DETAILS
Darksong was in fact hatched in Tymanther's capital city, Djerad Thymar, on the Thirteenth of the Rotting - Uktar 13 - in the year 1468 DR. He was part of a relatively small and insignificant clan, and was always something of a rebel and a troublemaker. After stretching the limits of his society's tolerance for his entire childhood, he managed to get himself expelled from his clan and exiled from Tymanther when he was fifteen years old in 1484 DR. The Second Sundering was ongoing at this point, and he waited out this calamitous period of history in the neighboring territory of Chessenta, traveling frequently from city to city and developing his skills as a nefarious bard. Still, he was rather directionless, seeking a sense of purpose.
In mid-1486 DR, while in Chessenta, he encountered a group of dark priests fleeing High Imaskar, the war-torn empire that would soon fall to rebellion from within led by the old gods of Mulhorand - the nation that had once existed where High Imaskar now stood. These people had been priests of Set, the greatest evil in the Mulhorandi pantheon. They had joined his clergy soon after the re-emergence of the Mulhorandi gods, hoping to use the chaos of the war to ensure their own power in its aftermath. However, unprepared for the struggles of the war and lacking true dedication and depth of faith, these priests had forsaken their god and fled their embattled home in hopes of starting a new life somewhere to the west. Intrigued, Darksong manipulated himself into the preists' lives, gaining their trust and learning from them all he could of their former god - a god he found quite appealing, not that he let them know. At least not until, having decided to commit himself to Set, he killed the fleeing priests in the name of their former patron. Set - who also went by the name "Typhon" in neighboring Unther - was pleased. Since then, Darksong has remained a loyal and devoted follower of his patron deity, working to advance his interests, spread his influence, and subvert his enemies.
As the events of the Second Sundering came to a close and Chessenta dissolved into a loosely-affiliated group of distinct city-states, Darksong decided to move on. Set was seeking an increased presence in the west, and so that was where the bard headed. In 1488 DR, he boarded a ship and embarked upon a voyage across the Sea of Fallen Stars, landing in the capital of the wealthy merchant nation Sembia towards the end of the year at the age of 20. He spent roughly the next four years in Sembia, working against the better interests of its people by ingratiating himself with the rich and exploitable, carrying out the will of Set and manipulating events to guide them towards his preferred outcomes. It went quite well, generally speaking, and he was able to cause a fair bit of chaos and do a good deal of damage; corruption, death, crises of faith and a whole lot of crime followed in his wake. Eventually, though, his bad reputation became too well-known in the relevant circles for him to effectively continue his exploits in the region.
With the blessing of his god, Darksong fled Sembia through Cormyr in late 1492 DR. He kept going west, bound for the storied lands of the Sword Coast. Along the way he traveled through the outskirts of Elturgard - which he really didn't care for. Darksong continued west until he arrived in Baldur's Gate - an iconic Sword Coast city-state with a reputation for all sorts of unsavory history. This was a place where Set was very keen to gain a foothold, after a previous attempt to infiltrate and conquer the region by his followers was foiled over a century earlier. Darksong was quite happy to be able to settle somewhere more civilized... and ripe for the undermining... once again.
