this is a re-draw of something i never finished from around 5-6 years ago. wanted to see what it would look like if i’d done it with my current skill (or more accurately if i’d ever finished lol) and i’m quite happy with the results. total time taken was about 22 hours.
+a little short story because i can
lemo kept her eyes to the ground as she padded down the old dirt road, carful not to accidentally prick herself on any sharp weeds.
‘I should’ve just gone when the sun was still up.. but..’ she sighed to herself, pausing to look up and check her surroundings. still just her, the foliage, and hard ground under her paws. ‘if anyone sees me doing this..’
the trespassing fine would be bad enough on its own, but the thought of anyone- especially her employers- finding out, made her want to sink in to a dark abyss, never to be seen again. her, of all people, going and urban exploring through an abandoned theme park? god, that would ruin the reputation she’d worked so hard to build for herself. and even though she didn’t remember seeing any cameras the last time she’d been there, over a decade ago… she couldn’t afford to take any chances. so under the cover of darkness.. wait. where’s the darkness?
dark.. dark is what it should be, but the soft yellow glow of old incandescent bulbs illuminating the ground in front of her begged to differ. looking back up, she sees entry gate fully lit up- though not anywhere near as bright as it was in her memory. cautiously, she stepped up to the ticket booth; not like she had to, lemo wouldn’t need a ticket to get in these days.
it was in about as good a condition as she’d expected, paint barely clinging to the old rotted wood.
“but.. how are..” lemo muttered to herself, taking a confused look at the soft lights. “shouldn’t the power have been cut off by now..?” though as lemo tried to get a closer look, she heard something made her blood run cold.
rustling from a nearby bush. panic struck her like a ton a bricks, and it took every ounce of bravery in her heart to turn her head look to unkempt bush. and for the briefest moment, she could have sworn she’d heard faint giggling..
even if she wasn’t frozen in dreadful anticipation, she wouldn’t’ve had time to run, as whatever was the source of the rustling jumped out from the bushes.
“lemo! lemo, it’s you! I was starting to think I’d never see you again!” the unkown voice called out, nearly giving her a heart attack.
she jumped, biting back a scream as she stared at him with wide, fearful eyes, involuntarily stumbling back. though this didn’t seem to bother the carny in front of her, as he gleefully skipped up to her, not noticing- or not caring- that he’d nearly scared her to death.
“don’t you remember? remember me? oh don’t tell me it’s been so long that you’ve forgot!” he begged, taking her paw in his as he cocks his head, bell playfully jangling.
he stares expectantly into her eyes, as she finally catches her breath after what felt like hours. he… wait, she does know him, but..
“jester..?” she finally managed, hardly above a whisper.
“ahh! you do remember me!” he beamed, “oh please don’t do that again, you scared me..” the jester lamented, pulling her paw closer to his heart.
‘is he being serious? I scared HIM?’ the sheer audacity of his words shook her free from fears hold. though before she could protest- or question why he was still here after all this time, she felt him pull her towards him- towards the park.
“come, come!”
“wha- hey!” she tried to move away, but the sudden pull caught her off guard.
“oh, it’s gonna be so fun! there haven’t been visitors in so long, eeeheehee! oh, where do I take you first?”
…
“short” story, shamrock says to themself, as they proceed to spend 4 hours writing/editing something that like one person is gonna read. well, it’s short for you, anyway. also sorry if the formatting/grammar is a little weird, i haven’t written anything in, like, a year. also if you saw this before it was edited, no you didn’t.
