Dawn couldn't remember the last time she'd spent winter in sun, surf, and sand. Somber snow was not the vibe this year. "New year, new Dawn" she told herself as she booked her mid-winter flight to tropical paradise.
She'd left the winter chill behind (and the headaches of a thick heavy winter coat of fur). Her snowy mountainous home felt like it was a universe away from here. All her anxieties of life back home melted away in the warm tropical waters.
As the sun marched across the sky, the tide crept ever closer until it had risen just enough to kiss her ankles where she sat. Warm and cool at the same time, the ocean was perfectly refreshing at this point in the afternoon.
She'd spent the morning lazily watching the waves ebb and flow around her, dolphins and whales playing lazily in the distance. Finally the surf had come to meet her, just as the shade of her sunhat was starting to lose its effectiveness against the tropical sun.
You could take Dawn out of the water, but clearly, you couldn't keep her away for long. There's just something special about it. The weightlessness, the way you feel like you just melt into something greater than yourself. It's liberating in a way that you can't quite describe... you just have to feel it to relate.
Even shaded by the wide brim of her sunhat, Dawn's smile shone bright. Vacations are always nice - no schedule, no responsibilities, no kids to manage, and most importantly, no stress.
With a playful kick of her legs, water is flung into the air around her, shimmering in the sunlight, adding just a little sparkle to her as the salted droplets misted her fur. Nowhere to be and nothing to do. "This is the life~" she would sigh to herself, struggling to imagine anywhere else she'd rather be.
Her mind wanders, daydreaming about what sort of fruity boozy drinks she could sample from the tiki bar... or about any handsome young men may be working the resort.
Maybe she there is one place she'd rather be, after all~
Wow it has been a while. I really don't have anything I can blame. Legends Z-A came out after my last upload, and next thing I knew I had 300+hrs of playtime and another promotion at work that gave me a lot more responsibility to keep under control. It's taken a while to finally get to a point where I could sit down and script a couple more captions (I was daunted by this for a while since there's 3 alts I plan to post today)
Like Dawn, I could really use a Hawaiian vacation. Funnily enough, I got this art back in 2024, which happens to be the same year I did actually take a January-February trip to Hawaii. I loved watching the humpback whales come down to mate. I would love to go back one day.
But alas, for now I'll have to live vicariously through Dawn. She seems to be having a good time~
Also, I've started getting subconscious about my writing style lol. Someone IRL accused me of using AI to write because I happen to be one of like five people who use an em-dash in my normal writing, and now apparently that's something only AI is allowed to use lol. So I tried really hard to sound less autistic (robotic) in this one. Hope it doesn't do the opposite.

All I can say is: Dawn, take me with you, please! I could so, so use a nice, tropical vacation about now, too.
Seriously, though, she looks amazing and the story is such fun! I love the idea of her packing up and fleeing the winter back home to lounge around splashing in the water, and perhaps flirting with a handsome young fella or two. The picture captures such a wonderful feeling of playfulness, and she looks fantsatic in that outfit, too!
I've heard something about em-dashes and AI, too, and that's nonsense. Various members of my local writing critique group use them quite frequently and I can guarantee those folks aren't computer generated. They're mostly retirees as well, so I don't think they're likely to use AI that much, either. Write your stories how you want to, and to hell with anyone who gives you shit for it.
