So, a new character of mine I've been working on for like...a couple years, but only relatively recently fleshed out particularly well. Velvet! After both the fabric and the cake. They're old enough they're classified as a Kiko, the kind of kitsunes that have lived long enough to shed their physical bodies entirely by becoming more spirit than flesh, but more of a high-tier kami, such that the traditional illusion magic can even be made partially real, such that an illusory bridge can hold weight or an illusory bed can actually provide rest, even if no one else can see it.
He does have all nine tails, but for practicality sake, making it easier to draw, as well as for disguising his actual power, often goes around with just three.
Tends to be a bit of a dramatic diva type, a smooth talker and quite charismatic, every bit the stereotypical charming trickster fox as the archetype is, but prefers using it to pamper and tease those that catch his interest. Always interested in what people think of him or how they perceive him. They also have a habit of emphasizing attributes of theirs the person they're teasing finds attractive. Talk to him a while and you might notice him subtly shifting details, both to refine his image of what you find attractive and simply to see if you notice.
Golden claws and eyes, markings based on Amaterasu from Okami.
Fantastically potent shapeshifter, though he prefers fox forms, from his regular kitsune form to an anthro fox or Renamon, or even odder ones like a pipefox or an Osaki, which are basically Japanese house spirits of prosperity and good fortune that look like a tiny two-tailed fox-weasel, but he can also take on the form of objects as one kitsune story had one take on the form of a teapot or even an entire train, though rarer than typical 'turning into a human' ones. This also means he's quite the potent size-shifter.
Runs a cafe / business group called "Trickster Treats", the base form of a cafe but like his shapeshifting, can take on the form of any benign business that the visitor needs, from a spa / bathhouse, modern arcade, luxury hotel, etc. Said business is in the spirit world, with only the door being on the mortal side of things so that it can have as much space inside as necessary to take on its many forms.
Formerly an evil kitsune, he ended up sealed and bound, first inside a fox statue, he was later transferred into a living human host but bound so that he couldn't control them, watching from their eyes and senses to learn a human perspective on life, and eventually the binding started weakening further and further as each host passed as he began to empathize with people, and eventually it failed entirely and he was set free as the binding no longer considered him a valid "evil spirit" worthy of containment. It's also how he found his love of service work and spoiling others silly. Perhaps part of the reason he remains in the mortal world is to keep up that connection, so he never risks slipping back again. Or maybe he just likes being around people.
Any fox-like form or a human is considered a valid target for possession, though he finds possessing humans without their consent extremely distasteful after his imprisonment, he will still inhabit them if he needs to. A drawing of him, or even just a description of him can be a suitable vessel, or just a regular old statue of a fox. So if you're ever looking at a drawing of a fox and you see it move, that might be him just saying hello...
