personally I always thought of Rei as a sort of cat. Like a large cat, maybe. Like a cougar. With that sound he makes when he attacks, and the fact that his discipline involved claw-like motions.

Wolf Kenshiro makes even more sense when watching Hokuto no Ken 0 Kenshiro Den. He is known as the Warrior of Wolf ironically after slaying a pack of wolves.
