Inspired by the music of retired synthwave musician Multipac (also known as MPM Soundtracks), here's an instrumental tribute to the Ferrari 288 GTO, an Italian sports car produced from 1984 to 1987. With its 2.8-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine, its sleek "Racing Red" body designed by Pininfarina, and its pop-up headlights among countless other features, the 288 GTO is easily one of my all-time favorite sports cars of the 1980s.
This is my first original composition to feature my Alesis SR-16 drum machine for the primary drum parts. Other instruments include emulations of:
- Oberheim OB-Xa (1981) - Main sequence, spiccato synth strings
- Yamaha DX7 (1983) - BASS 1, BASS 2, and FullTines presets, FM-synthesis "growl"
- Linn Electronics LinnDrum (1982) - additional drum layers
