Still not bothering with naming things, but this is part of my "drawing places I've been IRL years after I've been near them from memory to see how good my memory of landmarks are" series (I call it DPIBIRLYAIBNTFMtshGmMoLa for short /s)
Anyhow, this is my heavily warped memory of the Moundsville, West Virginia, USA mound and the museum next to it. I'm not sure why I remembered the museum being that close to it or the walls of the mound being that steep, but it was a shockingly large burial mound. Also, the tree was on the side of the mound IRL, not on the top.
The Moundsville mound is a mound where the "settlers" moved the actual burials of the native people to allow them to build their town against the Ohio river, according to locals of the region. Moundsville is probably the spookiest town I've ever lived in, and the whole region around the mound just feels so ghastly. Not to mention the fact that the mound is under 30m away from a giant stone castle-style prison that used to operate for the criminally insane.
Moundsville (to my knowledge) was a coal mining town, which had its economy significantly implode after the coal boom ended. Its a very quiet place, and the rail line running through the town was pretty dead. I used to walk along the tracks there and so some photography.
The prison in Moundsville had been used in a few movies, as it is absolutely the perfect setting for movies. Apparently, a semi-famous movie named "A Little Glass of Rum" was shot there, though I'm no movie buff. IMDB has about 30 movies listed that were shot in this eerie little town.
At some point, when I get around to updating my website(s), I think I'll add an entire historic breakdown of places I've been with actually researched information rather than just things out of memory. It'd be nice to draw historic landmarks and explain what they are and how they came to be.
