Mapleglen was a small kingdom, but the royal family loved every last inch of it. But on Sanctuary Island, it was a lot less busy. With Phoenix being the captain of the Starmada, he didn’t think that the title held much significance. He didn’t see anyone in the Starmada as below him, even when they gave him the title, the Prince of Flame. But when Mapleglen’s royal family visited Sanctuary Island for the first time, Cannoth knew that Phoenix felt as if he was missing something. And while Phoenix thought of the Starmada as a new family to him, he was still grieving the loss of his first family. And Cannoth knew this, within minutes of laying eyes on Phoenix. So he decided to not only give Phoenix his hospitality, not just introduce him to a village full of friendly dragons, but to give Phoenix a place and role that he wouldn’t expected ever have. His title as prince would soon become real, as Cannoth took Phoenix under his wings and adopted him as his own son, giving Phoenix back the one thing he was missing…a family.
There’s two reasons I wanted to do a pic like this, the first being just simply an excuse to draw the father and son together for the first proper time, showing the exact moment that Cannoth looked Phoenix in the eyes to tell him his decision.
But the other is partially as an excuse to vent. While I admittedly don’t want to talk about all of the details, the sheer amount of political drama that has been clouding up the United States has done nothing but constantly beat me down. It was the main reason why last year was so terrible, and with how much has been going on just in this first month of 2026, it’s been completely cluttering up my thoughts, and I just want to be able to put it behind me. It’s tragic to think that the country that I’ve grown up in and have spent my entire life in save for a short time in Vancouver just after a cruise is in such a bothersome and shameful state. I’m not pointing fingers. I’m not calling names. But I can’t stay completely silent anymore.
Day after day I keep wishing I had someone like Cannoth as a real person in my life. Him, Crystal, Chronos, Spring, the list goes on. But while I don’t have them, I do have all of you. I truly can’t thank you all enough, your support has been something that has kept me going even through the worst of times, and here’s to even more years of lots of cute art. I’ve been on the platform for nearly four years, but I’m nowhere close to done yet.
Also, one last thing, I want to thank
Breezy52, as they gave me some great advice! In the first rough draft, Cannoth’s left arm was raised, covering part of Phoenix. But they suggested I change it to his right arm being lifted, and we, and some other friends I shared it with as well, all agreed that the change made the pic look much better! I’ll be sure to keep than in mind for the future!
