After being given the rest of the day off, Judy made her way around town picking things she needed for her apartment. Afterwards, she returned to her place and after putting everything away, she laid down on her bed with a relaxing sigh. “Sure feels nice to have more time in the day to do things.” She looked over at her TV. “Might as well look for something to watch.” She turned on the TV and began switching through channels. One after the other, she couldn't find anything to watch and just turned it off. “Or, maybe I'll just see what's going on in social media.”
She sat up in her bed and leaned up against the wall with her phone. Skimming through streams, she came across an independent interview video featuring Cervina Artemis. The one doing the interview was a female badger who had a lot of merchandise of Cervina's movies she stared in hung up on the wall behind her. Clearly she was her number one fan.
“Welcome back to Movie Sett! I'm your host Bex Burrows, here with the one and only Miss Cervina Artemis. Soon to be Mrs. Cervina Artemis.”
The camera cuts to Cervina sitting in a futon chair. “Hello again everyone.” She smiled and waved at the camera.
“So tell us Cervina,” Bex said with excitement in her voice. “When did you know that Finnrir was your one and only?”
Cervina giggled playfully. “Well, it wasn't a love at first sight scenario that happens in a lot of movies. Over time, we just continued to work together on so many of them, that eventually we just got to know each other. We talked about our interests, our journey to becoming actors, and how things from our past pushed us towards where we are now. We had so much in common despite being predator and prey, that we just kept growing closer and closer. Then one day, Finn just asked me to hear a song he wrote himself and...” She wiped a tear forming in her eye. “That day I knew he was the one.”
Bex smiled and almost teared up herself. “A song that we all know at this point that has become his number one hit single in Zootopia and others corners of the country.”
“Indeed.” Cervina giggled playfully again as the camera zoomed in on her. “Take it from me everyone. Your soul mate is out there somewhere. Be they the same species of mammal as you or not, you'll know them when the time is right.”
Judy grinned and scoffed a little. Thinking about how her own one and only could possibly be someone other than a bunny. Just then, a FaceTime alert popped up on her phone with an image of her parents. She sat up and pressed the “accept” button. “Hey mom, hey dad.”
“Hey there Judy.” Said Stu with his face rather close to the camera.
Bonnie moved her own face in to be seen. “How was your day today?”
“Oh, it was good.” Judy said as she slid herself off the bed and moved over to sit in her desk chair. “Nick and I solved another case, and apparently we've been doing such a good job lately, that the Chief gave us both the rest of the day off.”
“That's amazing Judy!” Stu said as he moved his head back into the camera frame. “Does that mean you'll get more time off, and be able to come back home for a while?”
Judy smiled as she rolled her eyes. “Dad, you know I can't just come home whenever it seems convenient for you guys.”
“Oh I know that,” said Stu. “It's just that your siblings miss you is all, and I figured any chance you have to come home would be nice for them.”
Bonnie held the phone out further for her and Stu to both be in the frame. “And it's not exactly easy to bring a family of two-hundred and seventy-five children to a big city like Zootopia.”
“Guys,” Judy said as she kept her playful smile. “I'll let you know when I can come home to visit. Being a cop is a busy job, but it's not a twenty-four seven one. Given how I got time off for the first time, I'm sure I'll have it again. That's when I'll come and visit.”
“You know,” said Bonnie awkwardly. “Your grandma is still asking when you're going to come home too.” Judy's face went blank, as if she knew where her mother was going with the conversation. “Particularly to marry a nice male rabbit and start a family of your own.”
“Still?” Judy said with moderate annoyance in her voice. “How many time do I have to tell her that I can't be a cop and mother to hundreds at the same time?”
“I know, I know.” Bonnie said as she rolled her own eyes. “Where do you think you get your stubbornness from?”
“Anyway,” said Stu as he stepped in. “Whenever you get the chance to come visit, you let us know. Your mother will make your favorite carrot cake as a welcome home present.”
Judy chuckled. “Sir, are you trying to bribe a cop? I'm going to have to arrest you for that.” They all shared a playful laugh together. “Well, I'll talk to you guys later. Say hi to everyone for me.”
“We will Judy,” said Bonnie. “Give our regards to Nick.”
“Will do.” Judy hung up and set her phone down on the desk, her thoughts still lingering on what her mother told her. “Marry a boy bunny and start a family?” She scoffed and smiled. “Not in a million years.”
The next morning, Judy was standing outside the front entrance to the ZPD waiting for Nick. She was passing the time looking through photos on her phone. Most of which were of the two of them taking selfies with different animals in custody from cases they solved. She giggled with a proud smile. “I wonder what other memories we'll make today?”
“Hey there partner!” She looked up from her phone to see Nick waving at her with a foam cup in his other hand.
Judy put her phone away and waved back. “Morning Nick.”
As they walked through the main lobby, Nick took a sip of his coffee with a refreshing sigh. “So? What do you think will be on the agenda for today?”
“Not entirely sure. But I bet the Chief will already have an assignment for us once we get to the bullpen.”
Nick playfully hummed. “Maybe we'll get to work on another notorious animal job? Like that anteater who's supposedly smuggling in stuff from overseas. Oh! Or maybe that Cat Claw Gang that people have been talking about in the underworld?”
“Lets not get too excited Wilde. Whatever the case may be, we'll handle it like all the others.”
“Speaking of which,” Nick said as he held out his hand as they kept walking. “Think maybe I could get the pen back, just in case we have to record another law breaker's confession?”
“Nope,” said Judy with a smug grin on her face. “Until I can trust you with it again, it stays at my place.”
“Oh really?” Said Nick with own smug grin. “Because you know, you DID give me a spare key to your apartment for emergencies. What's to stop me from just sneaking in and taking it back?”
“Because I trust you.” She gently punched him in the arm. “And I know you wouldn't betray that trust.” Nick chuckled as they continued to make their way to the bullpen. But as they got closer, they noticed someone in particular walking through the lobby with a couple of police guards escorting them. It twas the new jaguar mayor of Zootopia.
“Alex”? Judy said in surprise.
“Judy?” Alex said in surprise as well.
“What are you doing here?” She said as she made her way over to him. Nick stayed put to not interrupt their talk.
“Oh uh,” Alex said with a little stammer. “It's nothing. Just taking care of some mayoral business with the Chief of Police. Nothing to worry about.”
“Oh?” Judy said curiously. “Okay. Well, it's nice to see you again.”
“Same.” Alex said with a grin. “And hey, we should probably catch up some time when we're both not busy. I think it'd be nice to talk to an old friend.”
“Of course.” Judy held out her hand and Alex shook it. “By the way,” she said as she gestured him to lean in closer to whisper to him. “Did you ever once think wanting to be an actuary would one day land you a job as City Council President of Zootopia? Let alone the MAYOR?”
Alex chuckled softly. “Not once.” He raised himself back up and adjusted her suit jacket. “I'm sure we'll have more to talk about when we can find the time. Take care Judy.”
“You too Alex.” They both waved goodbye and Judy made her way back over to Nick who was standing there quietly contemplating.
“You know the new mayor of the city?”
“I'll tell you later.” She gently grabbed him by the arm and pulled him along to keep walking. “Come on. Lets get in there before the Chief does.”
Once they entered the bullpen, multiple different species of predator and prey officers were already in the room, sitting and waiting to be dispatched to the city. Nick and Judy find their seats and await for Bogo's arrival like everyone else. However, after a few minutes of waiting, Bogo had yet to arrive, and everyone began to wonder why he was taking his time.
Just then, Clawhauser entered the room from the door Judy and Nick came through and called out to them. “Hey Judy, Nick?” They turned to look at him. “Chief Bogo wants you two to meet him in his office. Seems like there's something he needs to discuss with you guys.” Judy and Nick looked at each other in moderate confusion and hopped off their chairs to leave the room. Everyone else murmured to themselves about what the Chief could want with them.
Once they were outside the bullpen, Judy turned to Clawhauser with a concerned look. “Clawhauser, what's going on? Is something wring?”
“I don't know Judy,” he said as he rubbed the back of his head. “The Chief said to just come and get you two and to have you go up to his office. I don't know anymore than you do.”
“Huh,” said Nick. “That doesn't sound ominous at all, does it Carrots?”
Once they made it upstairs and were standing outside Bogo's office door, Judy gave it a couple knocks. “Chief Bogo? It's me and Nick.”
“Come on in you two.” They opened the door to see Bogo sitting at his desk and a female white tiger in a dark blue suit standing with her arms behind her back next to him. Nick gently closed the door behind him as he was the last one to enter. “Please,” Bogo said patiently as he gestured his hand to the same chair they sat in last time. “Sit. We have a very important matter to discuss.”
She sat up in her bed and leaned up against the wall with her phone. Skimming through streams, she came across an independent interview video featuring Cervina Artemis.
