Magic in the world of Dyrt isn't just a static, omnipresent thing. It's a resource, and as such, there are areas with higher or lower quantities. Lapyne researchers have recently discovered that pockets of higher magnitude magical energies can create rapid, unstable evolution, or even mutations among the flora and fauna within. Such creatures defy classification, as they are usually biologically distinct. Some factions and guilds have taken to the eradication of the more dangerous mutations, but towns where there is no guild presence have to rely on mercenaries or freelancers. Of course, some like to call themselves adventurers.
