The first drawing I did of this guy, but I didn't color it until now. I challenged myself to make a character from the Mali Empire, but there are precious few resources available on the Internet. I ended up basing his clothing mostly off textile fragments from burials from the earlier Tellem culture, while his scarification and jewelry are based off Djenne terracotta figurines. I imagined this character as a failed madrassa student who decides to hitchhike down the Niger river. I'm deciding between a few names for him right now.
