Name: Briar “Brix” Needlewick
History
Briar Needlewick was born in a soot-stained factory borough on the edge of a rail city, one of those places where gears never stop turning and nobody asks questions as long as you work hard enough. Porcupines there were prized for their toughness: quills for defense, backs for labor, silence for survival.
From the start, Briar felt out of place in the role everyone expected her to fill. She was sharp in ways that had nothing to do with fighting; observant, expressive, hungry for color and noise and self-definition. She learned early how to smirk instead of flinch, how to hide softness behind attitude, how to survive by being interesting rather than obedient.
As a teenager, she fell in with a loose-knit punk scene that squatted in abandoned workshops. They painted murals over rust, turned scrap metal into instruments, and stitched clothes from whatever they could salvage. It was there she chose the name Brix, claiming it in front of people who didn’t just accept her, they cheered.
Transitioning wasn’t easy in the borough. Resources were scarce, and respect had to be taken rather than given. Brix learned to defend herself with words first, quills second, and confidence always. The bandages and patched clothes she wears aren’t just fashion, they’re proof she survived becoming herself in a place that tried to grind her down.
Eventually, Brix left the factory district behind. Now she drifts from town to town, trading odd jobs, fixing things others throw away, and leaving bits of art and attitude wherever she goes. She has a habit of pretending she doesn’t care what people think, while secretly caring very deeply about found family, chosen names, and making the world a little less gray.
Personality Snapshot
Smug grin, but not cruel, she likes people, even when she’s teasing
Fiercely protective of other trans and queer folks
Hates authority, loves mutual aid
Keeps souvenirs from every place she’s lived: patches, pins, scraps of paint
Touches her quills when she’s nervous, pretends she’s just fixing her hair
