Eavesdropping on the Scribe
This card is for sale, $25 plus shipping. 4 x 6 illustration board and it will come framed, backed, and sealed in a clear bag.
Folks seem to really like Sryinx, the little albino faun who works as a temple scribe. He's shaping up to be the narrator for the 24 hour comic I plan to do October 1st (You're not allowed to have a script or notes, but you can have an idea in your head).
In this particular scene he's addressing someone off camera, maybe Barius whom he works for or maybe just a random person. Three has very good hearing and caught the sound of his voice so she's listening in a little. Initially I was going to have him addressing her but his gaze isn't on her, so the eavesdropping idea seemed a little more plausible.
Considering the amount of jewelry Three is wearing this is probably close to the height of her success as a gladiator. She wears lots of silver because that's her name in this world. Gold can only be worn by nobility and the religious caste. Sryinx's white robe marks him as religious caste and his lack of adornments shows he's on the lower end of it. (Children born with unique traits like his albinism are given over to the temples to serve) Three's yellow robe marks her as a non citizen, which is mostly populated by people who came to the city to seek a better life, people who were cast out from other castes, or people who just can't prove their lineage. It's considered one of the lower classes but there's success to be had.
The setting is vaguely romanesque but not a direct ripoff, which means that the god names are unfamiliar and there might be some practices and technology and laws that exist that didn't exist in ancient Rome. I mention this because folks like to tell me I'm not being accurate despite the fact that as far as I know ancient Rome was also not populated with talking animals.
Anywho, this is one of my postcards colored in copic marker. Enjoy!

Not to disagree with you Gen but I think this scene looks more like he was folowing her to help her with something and he might have just seen the collusium. Now since Sryinx has never seen the collusium before he would be in Awe kind of like "It's amazing, I could never see it from my chamber in the Temple" and Three's like "Meh, I've seen it before"
