So by an interesting coincidence, Dead Man Wake Up certainly brought this style of religion to the forefront of my mind.
And then recently, I privately shamefacedly told
TKDye that his Reverend character was, aheh, actually kinda hot?? It was just weird to me, since my family was extremely non-religious and I have a dim view of religious figures. The concept of a hot reverend was basically kind of...wrong? Unthinkable?
I thought it was just me and my typically unhealthy taste in douchey men, but Thomas confirmed that was his goal...strong personality + masculine body = intense magnetism. So, well done, it worked! Part of it is that his outfit is unexpectedly revealing...I thought those were sleeves simply because I couldn't fathom (or didn't want to) a reverend without them, but nope, that's all arm. Plus cuffs and gloves too (which I really liked conceptually, though I picked a crap pose for showcasing 'em).
So I doodled up a bit of fanart, which needed Kingmaker for balance and a little levity. And it also needed color to fit the mood. I had to fudge the pulpit size to make it fit, but you get the idea!

Not -super- common, but definitely well-established. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 6 has Father Pucci as the final and most powerful antagonist and he's basically a c*nty priest. There's also other's who typically tend to be some form of retired badass who kept up their physical training.
I don’t have much time at the moment, but I could probably deep dive into my own religious experience and other things.
Priests and other figure heads are human too, we all have needs and desires. It just becomes more of a trope because there’s the dichotomy angle, a figurehead who’s supposed to be religious and pure and lead the way. We don’t always think about how, again, they have their own desires and needs, some that are contrary to what they appear to stand for and preach. Yet it doesn’t always have to, just depends on the circumstances.
I mean, in Wake Up Dead Man, the Monsignor makes all the “confessions” because for his position it seems that much more lewd and obscene, it comes off and more shocking and uncomfortable.
I don’t mean to turn this into an essay, but sometimes there’s fun to be found in those nuances. From just finding it exhorting for the taboo angle, or even romance as you find out more about the person in some kind of story.
All in all’s I agree the Doberman is hot and he pushes several buttons in that regard. Forgive me
Father for I have sinned, and I want to drag you and your pants down with me! >;3c *snickers*
