New Year, new "Year of the X". For 2026, we've got our first male character for the series, Lord Tai for "Year of the Red Panda"! Though if you like evil creatures like Calli last year, you'll certainly be in for a treat.
Just be sure to address him by his full title and don't underestimate him...
Lord Tai was born into a family of royalty. Oh, not the inbred kind that had substandard intelligence. Royalty had to marry out of their own if they were to thrive. They were, however, quite selective about both their intimate partners for offspring and their children. His father, Elai, had managed to find a suitable wife with a bit of royal blood of her own. Tai's father was reknown for his ability to trap and ensnare others, but his mother, Yue Lan, certainly had her own alluring effects on her husband. To this day, no one truly knows if they are in love, if one is using the other, or if they are both playing games with each other.
Regardless, their family line was soon born, and with it, Lord Tai's life had begun. He was trained in what all royalty in the line of Red Pandas from the east were: diplomacy, combat, literature, art, languages...but equally important, he inherited skills from both his father and mother, along with his own capabilites that he discovered when he was nine...and an unlucky servant had decided to cross him.
His parents couldn't have been more proud.
Passing every test the scholars could give him, and surpassing several of them as well, once he was the age of fifteen, his parents issued him a new challenge. It was a traditional practice in Elai's family. Tai would be provided all the things needed to survive, and he would have one year to conquer whatever he could. If he could control what his parents deemed an acceptable amount of supplies, land, and creatures, he would truly be deemed royalty and their son.
Neither reward was particularly important to Tai. His relationship with his parents was fine enough, and with or without the title, he would always be a royal...but the thought of truly owning whatever he desired? Now that was a challenge worth pursuing.
What exactly happened in that year, well, that's for the history books to know. When Tai returned, however, he was celebrated like a true royalty. His own father had expected him to acquire double what he had at Tai's age, not twenty-fold! And of course, he was truly awarded the title of Lord Tai, and all he had conquered was his to keep.
Thus, Lord Tai moved out into the sinister jungles he had claimed as his own, complete with many a creature. Oh, he didn't have to do any of the building of his hidden, sinister palaces or cottages. That was all done by his servants...
