To the ill-informed, Shelly Riverstone may appear to have black skin covering her hands but, in fact, she had a green thumb!
She loved little plants and big plants and foliage festivals and even big, weird science abomination plants! And most of all, she loved gardening!
Sadly, the on-campus apartments at Grimaldi didn't have little garden plots that the students could tend to their hearts content. Apparently, the university had 'landscapers' for that and 'stop asking if we can plant a corn maze on Halloween!'
The otter had a windowsill planter to tend for her bedroom window but that wasn't quite the same thing. She longed to be digging in the dirt and growing beautiful flowers or nice, big vegetables. It was perhaps odd for an otter to want to dig around in the dirt. But she also really liked swimming. Wasn't a huge fan of flying, though. Maybe that's how it balanced out.
And maybe she otter give up and accept that the convenience of living on-campus was balanced out by not having access to a garden. Or maybe she otter not. Where there was a will, there was a way and Shelly had a lot of will.
So Shelly had found a little plot of land behind the campus apartments. It had been lost in the shuffle of the university's many development projects and left alone.
Shelly dug a garden plot out with her own two otter hands and also some borrowed tools and she made a nice little flower garden. Nothing fancy. Nothing elaborate. The flowers didn't form an image if you looked at it from a certain angle. Just something she could visit every day to water the flowers. And weed on the weekends.
Many things were possible with a watering can-do attitude and a willingness to just not ask for permission.

It's been suggested a few times that Shelly quite likes gardening. Her doing some kind of gardening thing was on my list of ideas for nice pictures to get. So when KaeMantis was doing some fast sketch commissions, I consulted the list and went 'ah yes, nice Shelly garden time.' Also, another opportunity to have her in that sundress.
Anyway, the point is that Shelly would have a beautiful town in Animal Crossing. She would not run on the flowers. Not even once.
