So, here we have some preliminary sketches for the creation of the character of a Stempunk Rat who BADLY wants nothing more than to be a bird.

 teahound requested a hybrid character. I wanted to do something a little more 'original' with the hybrid idea, so I thought I'd do a rat (About the size of a bird) who basically lived his life as a bird instead.

The wings are held together with the leather on the back, and rivited on, with copper shafts and soft flexible material to make each feather. His tail is held on to his rat tail, but his steering is actually done by the smaller tail near the tip.

The crest on his head is controled by his ears. They're peirced and have a bar that holds the feathers up, when he lowers his ears, the crest falls again. He wears a mask to simulate a beak.

He has no name yet, and I'm working on a 'finished' image of him, where he'll get his name. ^_^
