Captain Nova Skarn is, amongst her alien-tainted kind, an aberration. It was her lucky quirk of fate to have connections and talent in the void of space, fated to spread her corruptive taint to new stars, and she received a star-side seat to watch as the Star Gods arrived to feast on her original world. That was enough, especially with the 'unfortunate' death of the burgeoning Broodlord that she had been meant to transport, that she had what amounted to a moment of clarity. Being consumed wasn't what she wanted for herself (or even servants of the corpse god) so she just pushed off to make her own fate.
Just as long as she could stay far away from the biological imperative that came with the all powerful broodmind just waiting to reconquer her loyalties.
