Feedback Post - Have you guys noticed changes in my art?
I feel like I can finally hang a lampshade on this.
If you guys haven't noticed, I made a significant change to the way I draw things.
If you seen my recent output compared to my past work, you might have noticed.
This change was made on the sketch level, but I'd like to explain myself.
About a year or so back, I came to a conclusion with the old way I drew things.
I was drawing in a super impractical way. Its hard to explain, but I noticed a lot of artists who drew in a toony style did not draw the way I did.
A big issue I ran into drawing that way was that certain poses and scenarios were exceedingly difficult to draw. Another issue that people would also point out was that my artwork was getting super duper stiff looking.
So I decided to practice and do a bit of experimenting drawing in the way others have in order to remedy these issues. Unfortunately a new problem arised. I could no longer stay on model and proportion. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the usual toon style proportions to work with the new method I'd draw.
The artwork was looser and it made a ton of pictures much easier to draw funny enough, but the style just kept changing kind of without me really doing it deliberately. After a while of trial and error and a ton of techniques/methods and study I couldn't fix this issue.
As such I gave up trying to stay on model with my art. Instead I decided to focus on learning and making this new style look good in a satisfying way. I personally think I nailed it, but it does seem like i may have completely changed my art style in the process of this.
I've gotten zero feedback on this change. In fact, most people say I got better at art or don't even notice the change until I point it out. I've also just become comfortable drawing this way.
But its left a issue I been trying to ignore for a while and I wanted to know how you guys feel about it.
Because a lot of people did like the old style, but no one has ever told me if they preferred it. I kind of been running with the new style without accounting for if anyone even likes the changes or not.
I can say for the record, it's unlikely I'll go back to the old way. I only recently gone back to the old way on the following image below:

But for the most part, I've put this style to bed. Unless I can figure out how to retain these proportions while drawing in the new way, it'll probably remain that way.
I'm aware people don't really like change, but so far, I've gotten zero pushback from this change.
But I admit as i post art it does nag at me because i have no idea how my audience really feels about it.
So with that long winded explanation, I wanted to ask:
How do you feel about the changes?
Have I improved in your eyes?
Do the characters look better or worse?
Or do you just like both?
Have you even noticed any changes? Will likely put this in my scraps once I've gotten enough feedback.

The eyes isn't really a issue sense I can kind of go back to the thicker outline. The only reason the outline is thinner is because I sped through the drawing.
The hand and feet size is mostly due to my brain thinking it looks better for the proportions. I can't imagine if the paws will even look right if i made them bigger.

two i really noticed is the line thickness consistency in the right areas and differing line thickness in others where it provides more or less space for other features
also, the crevices being detailed here (belly, above the pelvis, neck and between the thighs)
definitely feels like you sat down and focused more on every stroke than just drawing the main design and calling it a day

How do you feel about the changes?
- Not bothered by it, you’re good
Have I improved in your eyes?
- Don’t know
Do the characters look better or worse?
- I think it’s okay
Or do you just like both?
- Doesn’t matter to me
Have you even noticed any changes?
- I’ve barely noticed any changes

The proportions & style do feel different, but not in a way that'd be obvious to someone who isn't looking for differences.
For what it's worth, I find the old proportions more interesting, but it could be a matter of "growing into" the new style.
As someone who's also looking for more practical/fast ways to draw things, I'd also be curious to know what your process used to be vs. what it is now...

To get the proportions on the left, I would draw really big on the canvas. It's hard to explain, but it meant i wasn't really filling out the form very well and things would get stiff and harder to draw. For the right, i drew smaller basically, in some cases thumbnailing, but overall going for looser gestures to get the entire figure in frame.
it's a subtle quality increase in many small ways adding up. depth detail colors and refinement.
depth- the clothes seem to have more depth to them, the ones on the left I can describe as having clothes the one on the right the clothes FEEL visually like they are hanging off of them.
detail - your using thicker lines to emphasize their outline more it adds depth to the smaller lines in a way making the smaller lines of clothes work better and the hair to be bushier? I think could be the word, more floofy in a sense it works.
colors - the inner ear color has changed for a brighter tone that looks nicer and I believe the clothes have been adjusted a shade brighter to add a little pop to em.
(fair warning slightly colorblind but it still feels like it, might just be lines being thicker on the outline.)
the ear fluff is more detailed the shape different as well as the curves being different it all seems to be refinement and more detail causing everything to fit better especially the eyes.
it's a subconscious thing, at a glance art style looks almost exactly the same but you can tell which side you like more right away.
it's when you stare and start dissecting the differences is starts showing up and you can appreciate the changes more.
also as for why people don't comment on it since it's a bunch of small things in tandem and human memory is awful they will notice an improvement but be unable to put a finger on it an artist is their own harshest critic most of the time so the changes might be glaring to you as you focus on it and check your own work, most people do not look back as much at older work and even if they do so it's not going to be to dissect it enough to want to comment on it unless it's put right in front of them.
all in all a darn good improvement across the board.
