Back the ZPD, Judy and Nick were in Bogo's office sitting quietly, while he was going over the report of the Forger Ferret case they had just closed. Holding up a single sheet of paper, Bogo adjusted his glasses and turned his attention to Judy and Nick.
“So, you investigated the the rumored location of the notorious 'Forger Ferret', which the subject admitted to?”
“That's right Chief.” Judy said proudly. “Nick was able to get him out in the open, cut off his escape with the help from our friend Finnick, and he also got him to confess after earning his trust.”
Bogo set the sheet back down onto his desk and made a soft hum in acknowledgment. “And why exactly did you bring that fennec fox friend of yours into this?”
“Had to make it look convincing.” Said Nick with a pleased grin. “Besides, I think you could chalk that up as a citizen's arrest.”
Bogo hummed again and leaned forward in his chair slightly. “And you also managed to get him to confess to being the forger?”
“Sure did.” Nick pulled out the carrot pen and held it up. “Got his confession right here.” Nick clicked the button, and a recorded message played. “I really am just a dumb bunny.” Nick's expression turned to moderate shock as both Judy and Bogo stared at him with annoyed looks. Judy more than Bogo of course. “Whoops,” he said with a nervous chuckle. “You weren't supposed to hear that. Let me just...” He pressed the button again till a rewind sound was heard, and the newest message played. “Actually, I AM the Forger Ferret.” Nick chuckled nervously again while looking at Judy with a forced smile. “THERE'S the confession.”
Judy kept her annoyed look. “Really?”
Bogo gently scoffed and removed his glasses. “Well, I'd say the case is officially closed on the illusive Forger Ferret, who has been causing unwanted trouble in Savanna Central the past couple of months.” Bogo gathered up the sheets of paper on his desk and placed them in the folder. “Excellent work you two. I'd say that will be all for the rest of the day.”
Judy turned to Bogo as Nick placed the carrot pen back in his pocket. “Wait, what? But Chief, we're only halfway through today's shift.”
“Yes, I'm aware.” Bogo then laid out a pamphlet on his desk and moved it closer for them to see. It advertised the upcoming wedding of Finnrir Howler and Cervina Artemis. “And I'm sure you're both also aware of the wedding of Mr. Howler and Mrs. Artemis, happening a week from today?” Judy reached over to grab the pamphlet and Nick leaned over to examine it with her. “An event that the ZPD has been tasked with providing extra security for. I'm sure I also don't need to remind you two that you've already been assigned to this security detail as requested by the engaged couple.”
“Of course not Chief.” Said Judy as she handed the pamphlet to Nick.
Bogo smiled at them. “Good. Because as of now, with this recent case closed, you two now have time to make your own preparations for the ceremony. You're both free to have the rest of today off.” Judy and Nick both looked at each other dumbfounded. “Why so surprised? Don't tell me that you two were aware of the wedding, but not at all the success you've been accomplishing this past month?” Judy stammered and tried to find the words to speak. She never thought about all that they had done, that Chief Bogo would actually allow them time off for it.
Regaining her composure, she was able to speak properly. “I had no idea that we'd been doing that good a job Chief.”
Bogo chuckled softly. “Some aren't aware of their success until someone tells them.” Bogo stood up and walked over to them. “Hopps. Wilde. For the past month, the two of you have done more for the ZPD than any other officer I've worked with. Ever since you discovered the missing mammals, and ended the Night Howler threat, all you two have done is complete one successful case after another. As Chief of Police, I'm proud of you both.” He made his way over to the door and opened it up, gesturing them to head on out. “You both have earned some rest and relaxation. The city will still be here tomorrow.” Judy and Nick hopped down from their seats and made their way over to the doorway. Nick handed the pamphlet back to Judy as they stood in the hallway and looked back up at Bogo. “So go on home and enjoy this time off. You've earned it.” He gently closed the door and left a still dumbfounded Judy and Nick standing in front it.
“Huh.” Nick said as he placed his hands in his pockets.
Judy looked at the pamphlet and then at Nick. “I guess...I guess we have the rest of the day off?”
“Seems like it.” They both stared at one another for what felt like hours. Judy then smiled and so did Nick, and before either knew it, they were giggling with excitement and started to laugh. They both then made their way down the hall to head to the front entrance. After a short while they were able to calm themselves down enough to talk properly. “I can't believe that CHIEF BOGO, actually said he was proud of us, after saying we could have the rest of the day off.”
“I mean, I knew we were doing a good job together, but I didn't think we were doing THAT good of a job.” Judy looked up at Nick and smiled proudly. “I guess we really are the Dream Team, huh?”
“You said it Carrots.” Nick said with his own proud smile. “There's nothing we can't do when we work together.”
“Oh wait,” Judy said as she stopped walking and turned towards Nick. “Before I forget.” She then held her hand out, as if to be handed something. “I'd like it back please.”
“What?” Nick stood there pondering what she meant.
“Nick.” She said as she tilted her head and gently thrust her face forward with wider eyes.
Nick knew what she wanted now, and he signed in compliance. “Fine.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out the carrot pen and placed it in Judy's hand.
“Thank you.” She then placed it into her own pocket and they continued onward. “You'll get it back when I know I can trust you to not keep a recording of me you said I could erase.”
“Fair enough.”
As they made their way through the main reception area, a tiger police officer was seen carrying the Forger Ferret by the back of his jacket, still in handcuffs. When he looked over and saw Nick and Judy, he began to thrash around in the air a little. “You!” Nick and Judy stopped and looked over at him as the tiger officer continued to walk by them. “You swore you wouldn't sell me out to the ZPD!”
Nick made a smug grin. “I said I wouldn't sell you out if you made the forgeries for me. You never did so...” He shrugged. “I didn't lie exactly.”
The ferret snarled at him. “I'll get you for this fox!”
Nick chuckled. “If I had a nickel for every time someone said that to me, I really wouldn't have to hustle again a day in my life.” The ferret continued to thrash around and shout in frustration as the tiger officer carried him away unfazed by what was going on around him.
Judy and Nick made their way to the front door. Nick stepped in front of Judy. “Allow me.” Nick reached out for the handle, but before he could grab hold, the door swung open quickly and struck him in the muzzle. “OUCH!” Nick placed his hand over his nose and gently massaged it.
Officer Wolfard walked through the doorway and looked at Nick briefly as he walked away from them. “Watch where you're going fox.”
Judy looked at Wolfard with frustration, then at Nick and back at Wolfard. “Hey Wolfard!” She stomped her way angrily over to him as he turned to face her.
“What?” Before he knew it, Judy had grabbed hold of his shirt and pulled him down to her eye level.
“How about you watch where YOU'RE going?” Wolfard stared at her in fear as she looked at him with pure anger. “Nobody hurts that fox, but ME. Got it?”
Wolfard whimpered. “Yes ma'am. I'm sorry.” Judy let go of his shirt and he frantically stood back up and quickly walked away.
“Good.” Judy walked back over to Nick who was rubbing the tip of his nose gently. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” Nick said with mild frustration. “I've had worse.” He looked down at Judy. “You know, I CAN fight my own battles. You don't always have to stick up for me.”
“Well what sort of partner and best friend would I be if I didn't stick up for you?” She giggled. “Don't be such a dumb fox.”
Nick grinned and giggled himself. “Whatever you say. Sly bunny.”
Outside, Judy's meter maid cart was parked on the sidewalk. She hopped in and started it up. “You sure you don't want me to drop you off at your place on my way back to mine?”
“I'm good,” Nick said holding up his hand. “I wouldn't mind a nice long walk back. Gives me time to think you know?”
“Okay,” Judy started to pull her cart away from the sidewalk. “See you tomorrow partner.” She drove off waving at Nick and did the same back.
“So, you investigated the the rumored location of the notorious 'Forger Ferret', which the subject admitted to?”
