WOW. This just HAS to be my number one favorite painting that I did so far! :D What influenced my to create the kirin was looking at Kirin MTG cards from the Kamigawa deck. If there's one thing I love about MTG it has to be the artwork. It inspires me so much! So, anyways, this kirin was originally going to be red transitioning to orange and then to yellow. But then I was like,"Hmmm, why don't I try more complimentary colors?" So that's what happened on the kirin! As for the background, I just let my imagination go wild. For the red part I tried to put orange swirlies insied but they didn't show up.... For the yellow part I just put purple because these two colors make each other stand out. Besides, if you combine yellow with yellow you get.... yellow. But for the green part I just put down a darker green swirly design because I didn't feel like combining pink and green. Besides, these greens make the flowers stand out. What I was trying to teach myself here was detail, color control, and complimentary colors. I think I should have outlined the kirin.... but I completely ran out of black paint...
