Ominous Encounter - Kasar on Yria
Kasar, a hardened desert survivalist with roots in the mountainous regions of the Idel Void. It is a land of rough canyons and jagged ridges, carved through with narrow yet deep pathways that lead to hidden green oases. These places are protected and traversed by Kasar's people and their beasts alike. From time to time, wanderers pass through to rest in the quiet, shaded corridors between the stone walls.
People of all kinds meet there to trade knowledge, food, and goods, while catching glimpses of the lifestyle of Kasar’s desert people. Everyone may pass through, and all are welcome.
One day, an ominous presence entered the canyons in the form of a massive beast. Although Kasar’s people mostly remain within their own region, warnings about the Dwellers travel far, even reaching the most hidden corners of Yria. A Dweller’s Rover appearing on any route is a dark sign, one that demands caution, and one Kasar never hoped to face.
Rovers are said to roam vast distances, scouting passages to make sure the Dweller’s colossal beasts can move through without obstruction and to identify resources worth taking. They are known for their brutal raids and relentless thefts, and only a few are said to escape their paths with their lives. Wherever they go, they leave dust behind.
Kasar weighs his choices carefully. Whether he speaks or steps aside, he knows that once a rover has passed, the land will never be quite the same.
There is an old saying on Yria: Never disturb a rock that seems to wander. It may suddenly start rolling. It means that a potential enemy may carry no ill intent at all, until you give them a reason to.
Another Yria commission from the MYRE 2 campaign back in the day. Each client gets to see their character become part of the worldbuilding of Yria, which is something I truly enjoy. This painting went through so many changes that I lost count. Even after completing it, I had to make further decisions regarding composition, colour balance, and overall dynamics because I was never quite satisfied. :)
It’s one of those paintings where everything and nothing worked at the same time. The full resolution is available below! Thank you so much for your support, and I hope you enjoy these stories! :)
