Dragons flew from across the continent with guests from the other continents flew in to watch the first Golden Dragon Tournament since the war against Malefor. Warfang was a buzz of activity with guards escorting and checking their guests before leading them towards the amphitheater in District 7. Sitting in the podium were the five Elder Guardians: Allan, Terrnus, Icillia, Zilian and Solstice, waving as their guests arrived, it wasn’t long until the amphitheater was filled with more sitting between pillars, With a booming roar, Terrnus silenced the audience.
“Citizens of Warfang! Guests from around the continent and beyond! Welcome to the first Annual Golden Dragon Tournament of the new age!” Cheers and roars echoed across the arena before silencing as a wing rose. “In the following weeks we are to witness spectacular events, battles between familiar and new elements for Shadow dragons are now permitted to participate in these events. Now let's give a warm welcome to our main contestants.”
The gates opened as twelve dragons marched through the gates as dragons roared and cheered as a two toned blue dragon was followed by a black and pinkish purple female, behind her was an ice blue and white dragoness, behind her was a blue and purple male with bright yellow accents along his body. Two black dragons, one with an olive underside the other had grey, and behind made many gawk and roar even louder were the saviours of the realm, Spyro and Cynder. It took a while before the arena was silent once more as Lady Solstice stepped forward.
“Contestants, we thank you all of competing in this first tournament since the war against Malefor started.” Each one bowed before the Elder Guardian. “Now before the battles begin, allow me to establish the rules of the arena. Guardians Terrador and Cyril will watch over the males while myself and Commander Imeris will oversee the ladies. You will be paired with dragons similar to your elemental scale, gentle drakes, ladies you will be paired with same sex until the halfway point then we will merge. Speaking of elements…Hamyb?” The dark dragon stepped forwards with a bow.
“Due to the corrosive nature of your element, for safety we are to tell you not to use it, and to keep it fair your opponent will also not use their element. This will be a melee brawl. Speaking of elements…Ragnor, Spyro, Cynder.” Hamyb stepped back as the three stepped forward with a bow. “With you three having multiple elements you must pick one element per fight. Each of you will have your own private quarters beyond the gates, if you wish to intermingle with other competitors or even spectators is welcomed beyond the gates. Food and drinks will be handed out outside the arena for all. Spectators can interact with competitors outside the arena. Enchanted leather armor will be in each quarter. Should you desire to use it as well as health and mana crystals.”
Stepping beside her was Zilian. “Contestants, these will be your opponents. Violet and Thoundra, ladies, you will be sparring each other. Hamyb and Arkness. Cynder and Jackie. And lastly Spyro and Ragnor. Violet and Thoundra, you ladies will be first, head towards your quarters to prepare and you will be called back to the arena. The rest of you may watch from the side lines or check out your quarters.”
Bowing the contestants shook each others paws wishing each the best of luck before heading behind the gates as Lady Solstice and Commander Imeris began moving into the arena ready to take their positions as referees.
Finally it is done. So many characters in a single drawing this is the single hardest one I have drawn a long time. The story is coming shortly.
Characters:
Ragnorak and Violet Midnight belong to Ragnorak-Mal
Arkness and Thoundra belong to Arknessdrago
Hamyb and Jackie belong to Djubigboss
Spyro and Cynder belong to...who ever owns Spyro know lol

Yeah, it's not technically bad, but it's doesn't fit her. Too soft and flimsy, compared to her personality and how she's written in the books. (Nevermind that it just completely goes against the descriptions. An entire scene in the first book just stops making sense if you give her feathers, for example)
And personally, the movie being bad is enough to make the design unappealing. Especially considering the changes made to dragon rider lore. It's not fun seeing Saphira with the same appearance as in an adaptation that treats her like a fancy flying horse :P
I know it's not the case pretty much ever (and I'm not saying you believe so), however I can't help but think "Feathered/movie Saphira = made by person who doesn't respect dragons" :(

I do respect dragons...but they can take on many different shapes and forms, with the iconic one being most popular. Now despite some not liking this image of her it is the one widely used because it is visually available while anyone, you, me any other artist can create their own book "version" of Saphira.
